Canoe the Little Wikiva River

Summer is here and it's time once again to canoe the Little Wikiva river from King's Landing downstream 8 miles to the Wikiva marina. This is an OACS summer favorite and everyone who comes along has a great time!

Don't let the 8 miles scare you, this is a great day for beginners and pros alike. The swift 3 to 4 mile per hour current does most of the work for you as the Wikiva's twists and turns guide you through some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the Central Florida area.

Wildlife is in abundance and is easily seen along the banks of the river as seen in these photos from previous years: http://www.meetup.com/Orlando-Area-Christia...

We'll meet at King's Landing at 9 AM and launch from their docks. Canoe rental is $30 ($15 each for 2 people) and includes:

  • Canoe & Paddles
  • Flotation Devices
  • Pickup at Marina

Two people per canoe works best, so plan early on canoeing with a partner or pair-up before launch.

If you have your own kayak or canoe, you may launch it at King's Landing with the group for a fee of $10.

There are places along the way to break for a picnic lunch, so bring food and drink with you but note that Styrofoam containers are not allowed.

Dress comfortably - shorts, sandals, hats, and sunscreen are preferred. Waterproof as necessary as everyone went in the water at least one time three years ago!

RSVP "Yes" if you can definitely attend. We must tell King's Landing how many canoes we will need. Watch for more info on this as the event date approaches.

Get your directions before leaving. There's little to no cell phone signal along the river so we can't answer your call if you need directions.

Post car pool ideas below.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this event. It was a perfect summer morning to canoe the river. Hope to see you all again at a future OACS event.

As of 7AM this morning, the latest weather forecast calls for clear weather up to about 2pm when the chance of scattered thunderstorms begins to increase. We usually arrive at the marina around 2pm, so the weather looks favorable for the time we'll be on the river. We'll be launching no later than 9:30 but please get there by 9AM to partner up and rent canoes. See you all there! ;-)

One year, we had a "novice" team travel nearly the full length of the river sideways, but don't worry - we'll make sure you ride with someone experienced.

Hello Lenore, We generally launch by 9:30AM at the latest and stop for a picnic lunch around 12:00. We get back on the river around 12:30 and arrive at the marina around 2PM. We catch a ride back to King's Landing in their shuttle and ending our adventure around 3PM for a total of about six hours. Glad you decided to join us. :-)
