Just when you thought the Good Life couldn’t get any better, kick off your weekend with a Saturday morning hike at one of the most beautiful trail hiking locations in the OC!
Crystal Cove State Park offers beautiful scenery coupled with a cool ocean breeze, a variety of colorful wildflowers, and of course, you can’t beat the great company of your fellow Good-lifers.
Location: We will start at the Ridge Park Trailhead (pictured below) bordering the edge of the 73 toll road at the very end of Ridge Park Road.
Coastal Peak Park is adjacent to the trailhead and is part of an affluent residential area of Newport Coast. There is plenty of free parking on the street next to the park, and next to the trailhead cul-de-sac.
There are full restroom facilities in the park within a few steps of the trail head, and there will be a camp ground half way along our route that will have a porta-potty and picnic tables.
About the Hike: The hike will be approximately 4 miles and take us roughly 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. I estimate the difficulty level to be a beginner to low-intermediate level hike, where most of the trail is a gradual incline or decline, with some short sections that are much steeper and will require more effort.
We will be moving at an average walking pace, taking rest breaks along the way.
This is intended to be a fitness hike, but to also afford us the time to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
If you have never hiked before and are relatively inactive, you may find this to be a challenge. As with any physical activity there are risks so please know your own limitations as you are ultimately responsible for your own safety.
Your organizer has a lot of experience hiking Crystal Cove State Park but is not a professional hiker, nor skilled in emergency first aid. Please also keep in mind that, though heavily traveled, this is a wilderness area and thus carries with it a level of inherent risk.
Expecting that the weather will be cool this day, I set this hike for later in the morning (plus, your organizer wants to sleep in a little) ;) Though hopefully warmer later in the morning, check the weather before you leave and keep at least a light jacket in your car in case you need it.
- Appropriate shoes
- A light snack or energy bar
Looking forward to seeing you all there!
