Get Outdoors - Get Happy - Get Healthy!
Cumulatively the club has lost over 40,000 lbs! Social walking, hiking and backpacking is LIFE CHANGING. We find that time spent in the outdoors is magical, healthy and healing. We have also seen that there is a great need for positive human contact and the social aspect of these hikes is a significant contributing factor to physical health as well as mental, spiritual and emotional wellness. The combination of time spent in nature coupled with positive human contact has powerful results.

Who Joins OC HIKING CLUB?
Walkers, hikers and backpackers from all walks of life (no pun intended). Hiking professionals include doctors, lawyers, teachers, scientists, engineers, business owners, CEO's, single people, married couples, housewives, househusbands, single parent families, traditional families, multiparent families and people from all careers and cultures. Note: This is a social hiking club, it is not a dating club!

I just lost my job and now I have some extra time to hike
Come hike your cares away... during the economic downturn we are getting even more new members many of which “have always wanted to go hiking, but never had time.” And some members have had great luck finding new work OTT “On The Trail.”

OC HIKING Training Events at REI, Santa Ana
Training Events - learn about the outdoors! These events are FREE!
Outdoor topics and experts include: Backpacking 101, Intermediate Backpacking, Advanced Backpacking Skills, Ultralight Backpacking with Glen Van Peski of Gossamer Gear, Wildflower Photography 101 with Bob Allen, Wilderness First Aid with Dr. Dave, Regional Geology and Hikes of Local Mountain Ranges, Foot Care and more.

OC HIKING CLUB - Suki's Kids in Need Hikes
This model program helps disadvantage youth and has received high praises from the community and agencies. We work with local OC agencies such as Orange Wood Foundation, Foster Care Auxiliary, Social Services agencies and others by taking disadvantaged youth outdoors. These magical and highly effective hikes take kids out into nature in a supportive social environment. Studies show that even a small amount of positive adult attention can make a big difference in the life of a child. The hikes are led by hike organizers with a background check and the youth are accompanied by staff or adults from the accompanying agency. If you wish to attend these hikes and help OC Kids in Need please join the club and read the calendar event text carefully.

The purpose of OC HIKING CLUB is to get men, women and children out into the great outdoors through social hiking, backpacking and group outdoor activities. We do this by promoting physical and emotional wellness through group outdoor activities. Creating awareness of Orange County local outdoor areas and serve as a resource for trail information and organized hikes. Providing educational events to enhance and encourage community enjoyment and understanding of the outdoors. Raising awareness and providing assistance for humanitarian needs in local area and Supporting our local community by helping abandoned/abused/orphaned children by taking them on outdoor nature hikes and of course helping local environmental causes such as keeping our local area free of trash, pollution, etc...

OC Hiking Club consists of all ages, cultures, religions and we all agree on one thing - We LOVE hiking!

OC Hiking Club is a member of Hike Everywhere, Inc. a non-profit public benefit organization.

Revocation of membership
Summary - "Play nice!" Not everybody is a PLU ("people like us"), therefore the president and board of directors reserve the right to give you the old eight-ball (i.e. kick you out).

The OC Hiking Club, its President and the Board of Directors, reserve the right to revoke the membership of any member without comment at any time for behavior deemed inappropriate or unsafe. Such behavior includes, but is not limited to refusal to follow directions of hike organizers during events; unwanted attention towards or harassment of a fellow member; hostile, rude or inappropriate treatment towards a fellow member; failure to follow safety guidelines established by the organization; failure to follow club bylaws; failure to comply with local, state, or federal regulations while engaged in club activities; etc.

Email FLOOD warning!
When you join please make a “meetup specific” folder in your inbox. Meetup generates a ton of email and some people love the emails and others hate them. We are begging meetup to develop a way for members to “turn off the email flood” but until that happens you need to create a separate folder for receiving meetup email OR get a Gmail account.

Your Email Address is Sacred
The OC Hiking Club uses meetup.com for email and calendar. Meetup.com does not use your email address for anything other than membership communication. Our experience with meetup.com shows that they are very ethical.
