Part 1: Intro to Pig and Hive
Part 2: Intro to MapR
In the spirit of helping people come up to speed with Hadoop, this session will be giving a basic demonstration of Pig and Hive, by running Pig and Hive code to process an interesting data set on a live MapR cluster. It will then look at this data using external tools that query the Hive tables using ODBC and JDBC.
This should give newbies a good basic idea what can be done with Pig and Hive, along with some of the details of how this is accomplished. Experienced attendees will also have a chance to contribute to the discussion by sharing their own ideas and experience with these tools.

What a fantastic meeting and a wonderful turn out. Thanks David for the very interesting presentation, especially when you pulled in the BI component to illustrate basic analytics via Excel, Tableau, etc... A big thank you also goes out to Rich and his KBB team for providing their professionally designed training room and the free beverages. And of course, thank you MapR for the delicious pizza. Until next meeting, Happy Holidays everyone!!!! See you in 2013.

Hi All,
I've updated the details of the upcoming event on HIVE and PIG. We've seen enough slides. This event will actually demonstrate actual HIVE and PIG code running. Should be very interesting. I look forward to seeing you all. Bring a friend... spread the word.
Also, this event will be at the Kelley Blue Book office, in Irvine. This will be my first time there. I heard it is very impressive. Another reason to come to the meetup. Thanks KBB!
