Fwd: Photography Class Information

From: Paul
Sent on: Monday, March 9, 2009 10:16 AM
While I was in Dana Point for the Whale Festival, I met a guy showing
his photos. He also teaches photography through the city of San
Clemente. This isn't an endorsement but it sounded interesting and I
thought someone in the club might find this useful.

Here is the information he sent me:

Recalculating Temple Owl
Ted Turner - "Sports is like a war without the killing."

I want to welcome you to the path to improve your photography and
start having fun with it.

It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday at the Dana Point Whale Festival.

Our class From Snapshots to Art takes you through the steps, in
camera and Photoshop, to improve to the point where you are making
photographic art. Our next class starts on Monday April 13th. It will
be held on Monday nights, 6:30 to 9:30 PM.

This class is through the San Clemente Parks and Recreation Dept. It
is usually held in the Community Center on Del Mar Street in San
Clemente. The price is $350 for the eight classes and two field trips.

For me: I have attached the class overview with an information sheet
for you to fill out and e-mail back to me. It gives me a way to learn
about what you want to get out of the class so I can make any
adjustments as necessary.

For the City: To sign-up with the City of San Clemente, go to their
web site.

In the dark blue bar that goes across the top, look for Recreation and
click on it.

Click on Recreation Activities.

Here you have two options Online Registration or download the
Registration Form.

My class is: Course - Digital Photography Adult.

Fill out the registration form for the City of San Clemente online or
mail your completed Registration Form to them.

I will e-mail to you the class presentation and handouts a few days
before the first class.

It has been a few months since the holidays. Everyone needed a rest
from all the holiday activities. It seems like so much has happened in
this short period of time, but not it's about to wind back up. In this
newsletter we will give you an update of the upcoming activities in
the art community.

San Clemente Art Association

The San Clemente Art Association Spring Art Show unveiled the winners
of this show. I entered "View from the Casa" which won second place in
photography. In order to not have the inside of the arch a silhouette,
I shot the picture as a high dynamic range image. More on this new and
exciting photographic technique in a workshop later.

Upcoming Art Shows

Sunday March 1 and Sunday April 5 -- The San Clemente Village Art
Fair. I will be at my usual spot on the corner of Del Mar Street and
Ole Vista.

Saturday and Sunday March 7 & 8 plus Sunday March 15 -- The Dana Point
Whale Festival in Dana Point Harbor, located just south of Harpoon
Henry's on the "Board Walk." Stop in at Harpoon Henry's and say hello
to Jackie one of our students.

Saturday March 14 -- San Juan Capistrano Art Show, just over the
railroad tracks on the Los Rios Street side.

Professional Photographers of California Show

One of the best places to view the state of the art of high end
photography is at the Professional Photographers of California show at
the Pasadena convention center March 20 thru 22. This is a highly
recommended show to attend and see the level these photographic artist
have taken their art.

Upcoming Photography Class

The Spring San Clemente Parks and Recreation magazine is out and you
can find the information on my next "From Snapshots to Art" class on
page 50. This is a hand's on class where you learn how to take control
of your camera so you can start producing photographic art. I take you
step by step through the process from composition, rules of art, how
to develop your eye, how to take control of the camera, process images
in Photoshop, and much more. This is an eight week class with two
field trips to put into action what is covered in class. Sign up
through the city at. Call me at (949)[masked] if
you have any questions.

Upcoming Workshops

I have an ongoing series of workshops targeted for the advanced
photographer or those who have completed the "From Snapshots to Art"
class and want to take their photography to the next level. In these
workshops we go into depth on each subject. We start with a class that
will prepare you to take pictures for the subject, then go out on a
field trip to execute in the field, then back into the classroom to
process the images. We have just completed the studio portraiture
workshop. Here is a list of the upcoming workshops and the starting

Beach Photo Shoot - Tuesday February 24 (starts this week so call
today if you want to take this workshop)

High Dynamic Range -- Tuesday March 11 (Sign up now because everyone
wants to do HDR. It's the hottest thing in photography)

HDR Pans -- Tuesday March 24 (We will take it up another level by
producing HDR pan's)

Macro photography -- Tuesday April 7 (we will get in close and
personal on these pic's)

Extended Depth of Field -- Tuesday April 21 (We add the needed depth
of field to your work)

Black and White -- Tuesday May 5 (Take your art into the ever popular
realm of black and white images)

These workshops are held at the Side Street Gallery on Cabrillo Street
in San Clemente. Call me at (949)[masked] to enroll.

Bonus Activity

Last year we had a bonus class where we photographed the 4th of July
fireworks at the San Clemente pier. Everyone who participated had a
great opportunity to do night photography.

This year we will have a bonus, no charge class for our photography
class students to photograph the Hot Air Balloon Festival at Lake
Skinner in Temecula June 5 thru 7. It will be a fun activity and a
chance to get some beautiful shots of the hot air balloons.

Jackie has promised to show us how the USC crowd does tail gating. I can't wait.

If you would like to join us, call me at (949) 369-7871.

That's a Wrap

That's enough talking for now. Remember to keep your camera with you
and watch the weather reports for the more interesting sky. You can't
get the shot if your camera is at home.
