Jeffrey Zinn rocked it with his hooks and filters preso. Is that shared anywhere online?

It would be better with recliner massage chairs and beer holders. But despite that inconvenience, there was lots of good geeky WordPress chatter.
great meetup . great people
I leave a little bit smarter every time.
Everyone was awesome, but that host was clearly an amatuer. =)
Waiting for google hangout to start

I have had decent luck with this plugin for dropdowns:http://shailan.com/wordpress/plugins/dropdown-menu/
Anything on dropdown menu's would be good for me. I know that probably sounds kind of lame for this group, and it's css, but I'm a beginner and I'm grappling with suckerfish today and yesterday. Judging by my progress, I should have it figured by tomorrow, but any tips would help. I inherited a website that a guy put pixopoint menu plugin and I hate it. There is like 5000 lines of code, when all you need is wp_list_pages(), so I'm just going to make my own menus.
So far this is what our developer meetup is looking like:
WordPress Hooks/Filters (Jeffrey Zinn) Thesis hooks (http://diythemes.com/thesis/rtfm/hooks/) Thesis filters (http://diythemes.com/thesis/rtfm/filters/)
When to make a plugin vs. using functions.php/how to make a plugin (Brandon Dove)
Hosting/Scaling/Shared vs. VPS vs. Dedicated. When to upgrade. (Mike Schroder)
Does anyoe else have a topic they'd like to hear or present on?
Stream, meeting notes and such can be found here:http://ocwp.org/blog/2011/10/10/oc-wordpress-developer-day-meetup-10-10-2011/
I can probably offer some input on those specifics during the Meetup

I've had this question too. Some is probably beyond the scope of the group but I'd sum it up like this:1) How do you know, objectively, when you need move from shared hosting to VPS. (ie. what metrics can you test beyond the subjective "the site seems slow"). Error Logs? 2) What is important and how does one size a VPS? (ie. memory? cpu? storage?)3) When/how do you know it's time for multiple servers? Split DB and Web Server first or 3 servers or ? etc...4) CDNs... do they help? how?

@michael, we can cover scalability. Hosting is a bit more subjective, but we can poll the group what they think. Do you have any specific questions about how things in WordPress scale?
@angelique, what specifically are you wanting to learn about hooks for thesis? I haven't used Thesis before, but I'm guessing that they work the same way as WordPress hooks do. If no one else volunteers, I can cover how hooks work, while referencing a few theses specific hooks.
Can we talk a little about scalability and hosting? I'm trying to decide between Hostmonster or Media Temple and need help figuring out if the site I'm building needs MT.
Anyone interested in covering the topic of "hooks" for customizing the Thesis theme?
