Sorry to be so slow to respond, but we definitely like honest feedback, Larry, and hope you'll return. This wasn't a typical meeting in that our main leaders, Destiny and Bill, were trying to double up and catch part of another meeting being held in the same complex. Even though they announced that they would be late, it caused some difficulty and probably isn't something they'll try again.

Another thing that was atypical about this meeting was that it was held at a new venue we're trying out -- and, yes, our hosts do expect patrons to buy something, but it doesn't have to be "a $6 brownie." A $2 cup of coffee would do. As for the geek speak, I let it go by me when I don't understand it. Usually I do learn something at every meeting, as I did from you at this one. After all, this is a techie group.

Fortunately by cleverly dealing with this 1 time schedule overlap issue http://meetup.com/OCA... as that thread details, we're able avoid changing the times & dates of this event at all, which should be especially good news for member Michael Strong http://meetup.com/OCA... (a key reason I went to all this special trouble) as he's been very vocal (posting here) that he wants meetings on Thursdays, indeed on the last Thursday of every month, especially do Android hacking; indeed he's the leading reason why we picked the new meeting schedule on last Thursday. Surprisingly not yet seeing his RSVP YES here, since this was all per his request, I've just RSVPed him YES here as well. Yes, we work hard to please our members, Michael S!

At this venue http://www.meetup.com... on Thu when were there, due to the business we experienced (due to the board games every Thu, where players said this was a bit fewer than normal) including the extra noise we experienced (not bad bit a little difficult), I asked the owner what would be THE BEST NIGHTS TO COME IN THE FUTURE; she said Mon else Tue as are the least busy.
*I asked all our attendees and nobody had any problems with these days.
*As I mention above in this thread, Michael Strong http://meetup.com/OCA... recently posted he would definitely attend if on Thu, esp last Thu, the leading reason why were then all there on this the last Thu; but now he didn't show,&didn't explain why in his RSVP, nor reply when I then SMSed him asking him Why he then didn't show.
*Consequently we'll prob matchingly change our std mtg day to Mon else Tue.

MY APOLOGIZES. In hindsight,I see I SD HV DELAYED THIS PARTICULAR MTG ~1HR so all wd hv run more smoothly.
*Where&how did I mess up? Overall I overestimated the performance of everyone,starting w/me; fr ~most2least:
**1st,of me:

**&_here_ a delay was possible. But I didn't think of it as we used last venue always rushing us by 10pm; also,noted here,I was avoiding changing WHEN to deliver on my commitment to Michael Strong. So only subsequently I remember this venue closes@ 11pm so this wd be possible; &realized I overestimated Michael S, who,despite his promise,didnt show&didnt even tell why -but,I aware,DID change his RSVP2 NO.

***As I sd hv prepared4 by its mere 1.5hr posted duration,the overlapping MITCSC mtg ran over considerably,apparently starting late then its "1/2 talk" going near1hr,&where what I had do(meet its leaders&announce OCAndroid) delayed 2the end;fortunately Bill&I nonetheless still left after~25min overtime.
***Host Lucy was there on time 2run the mtg, but, as I cd hv anticipated,wasn't comfortable running it beyond the 1st hr.
**Knowing I delayed,2then oversee running the whole OCAndroid mtg(which was already mtg!),host Bill sd hv left MITCSC sooner&ended talking w/Dmitry(yes even as a perspective mbr);&I sd hv insisted on it.
**Of event hosts, though my & Lucy's RSVPs were correct including I did include a comment noting my arrival time being delayed 1hr & why, the other 2 event hosts Bill & Kathy didn't fix their RSVPs (Bill didn't note he wd similarly be delayed; and Kathy didn't arrive at all,a more serious matter TBA); all giving notable mis-impression things wd run normally.

I too must apologize to the members for my sloppy handling of the schedule. I didn't communicate with the other leaders well, and also didn't take our schedule seriously. I understand I must work harder to ensure our meetings start on time.

To solve this 1 time schedule overlap http://meetup.com/OCA... , +at-least-temporarily the notable recent mistreatment by the staff at our regular venue http://1.JotHere.com/... , I'm HOSTING THIS INSTANCE (&possibly future 1s) AT A NEW VENUE (see the updated event listing; the name sd only be said there to enable Meetup.com to insure it's only seen by mbrs). This venue rather cooly is only only 184ft fr(indeed same parking lot!) as the MITCSC event(what made me think of it)+is is a really nice place incl a better usual crowd; yes the food there isn't as complete but there r good restaurants in same parking lot so that sd b ok; but THIS CHANGE INCREASES A LITTLE THE ITEMS MBRS, ESP LEADERS, NORMALLY BRING; for instance Lucy sd bring projector+screen just in case we need it &the 24in LCD screen; Bill sd bring his ~24in LCD screen,2;simply read "MFMA8R: ..CONVENIENT COOL LOCATION" in the event desc. Now I just see with our present schedule of "repeats on the last Thu every 1 month", we will have to be sharing the patio space (if we use that portion, as I anticipated we would) with the board game nites starting here with this one http://meetup.com/Irv... which appear to be every Thursday 7pm-~9:30pm. From having visited a couple of these, they drew ~15 people into the patio but they're not noisy and the patio could hold about double that, maybe more, so we should be able to fit in fine. Plus board gamers might be curious about Android, and visa versa (for instance Bill codes Android plus loves at least video games), so I would it could actually be a nice win-win for both groups. :-)

*She confirmed we're coming on on game night; she said it will be pretty packed with gamers so she suggested:

**making a reservation, so I reserved a table for up 6 for Meetup.com/OCAndroid ; she said, WHEN YOU ARRIVE, JUST ASK FOR THE OCANDROID TABLE
*She said, yes, some of the gamers would probably interested in what we're doing.
**NOTE TO LEADERS: there set up our OCAndroid banner.
*For attendees who haven't had dinner, they will also be offering sandwiches (as ham & cheese) on a croissant. She agreed the menu wasn't fully complete and mentioned several restaurants in the parking lot; I said I would say "TO APPRECIATE OUR VENUE, ATTENDEES SHOULD TRY TO BUY FOOD THERE before bringing any outside food" and she said "That will work".

The new venue was probably the best part of this mtg. Overall notably nicer than our last venue; pros-thu-cons:
*The spirited crowd were nice&warm, including:
***Bill&I& even Lucy ended up staying notably late, right up to venue closing 11pm.
***I even met a par of 2 cute Korean gals there :-)
*was wifi!,&was reasonable,tho 1 had to relogin every ~2hrs.
*Nice not to rushed out just b4 10pm, as our past venue did; staff seem pleased to have us.
*The staff reserved a table 4us,even made a nice sign 4us,&took a tad more interest in our subject
*there weren't overhead screens set up to display on,tho we didn't end up setting up our own displays.
*the food wasn't much of a complete meal fr what I experienced,tho seemed fixable incl by restaurants in same parking lot.
*Noise was a tad of an issue,but seemed fixable.

*The board games going on (every Thu) in the patio were a tad noisy; so
Lucy picked our table by the front counter (not patio),& there we assembles tables into a long table, which worked, except the periodic blender behind the counter was a rather noisy.
*As typical, owner Beth was there playing board games the whole time. We said hello and she seemed a tad pleased OCAndroid had picked to meet there.

We told Joy about Google Voice and she agreed to get it. http://1.JotHere.com/... tells how. She very much wants to keep her mobile phone # so I recommended she port that to Google Voice; Joy had doubts about porting her # to GV, one was Google having her phone records and also the quality. I told her her that Google having the phone records was more trustworthy than any phone company I know, Google notably known for defending customer records against search, and Google would allow her to create an account under a fictitious name (as I do). Lucy had said that Google Voice quality is sometimes bad but later she admitted she didn't realize that that that was just sometimes when using the computer/laptop/desktop not from calling from a cell phone using the GV App, so this should not be a problem.

*We told Joy about the best deals on Android mobile phones: $35/mo on Virgin Mobile for 4G & 3G, $30/mo on T-Mobile for 5G of 4G plus 100min (what I use with GV), and $25/mo on Virgin Mobile for 300min+unlimited 3G with a phone, my Samsung Intercept (I may still have a plan and offered to lend it to her at least till she finds something better)
*After all this, ~1hr ago, Joy left, quite satisfied.
