MIT CS grad&ran combat hospital's IT. I'm a natural coder(many langs,incl JS)+Android fan;&foreseeing Android wd dominate,2010.10 I volunteered 2head&effectively-founded this group --hugely-underestimating the work 2make this group the success it is!
(1) I added this Q years later so no longer have the exact query string but it was something like http://www.meetup.com/find/?keywords=Android&&country=us&zip=92630 , (2)I liked Android &2010.09 predicted(correctly!) it wd beat iPhone(as http://meetup.com/OCPERL/messages/boards/thread/9153546#38222823) so got my 1st Android(&4a mere $25/mo w/unlimited 3G data+sms:Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept smartphone -deal!) so then searched for nearby Meetup group to learn about Android this was the only group (with then just ~40 members), so I joined. And the group had been around 1 year but hadn't held any held ANY meetings, and the founder just quit. So my bud Stuart http://meetup.com/members/11466551 temp saved the grp from deletion &held 1 org meeting where I showed, and he, being an iOS/iPhone developer but knowing me to be a Android-fan esp a proven leader incl on Meetup, he offered the group to me & I accepted, and from there on effectively-founded the group to the success it is today!
MJZ917: *Starting 2012Q3, working with leader Bill on my idea for a continual recorder for everything, what he named Pancorder; I'm doing the overall design and he's doing the coding for Android. MIT CS BS & MS work, graduated top of my CS class. Won the annual programming competition. Worked in the DB design team at Oracle. Designed a few programming languages. Long term I'm into very high level language design (as logic programming) wiki-publishing. See also answers above. Now (when joining this group), focusing on BuddyPress & major open-source version control systems as Bazaar & SVNl subsequently doing mostly management of people especially tech people.
Tops & getting better. Professionally & scalably run. Not just a single meeting type, but features 8+ specialty meetup tracks each meeting at least monthly, together covering a full spectrum of specialties (presentations, real training at the different levels, users vs developers, conferences, general meetings, & more), with a growing group of members also taking leadership roles to make this all possible (become one of them!). It's by far the most comprehensive Android community group within a 35 mile radius (compare yourself with all competitive Meetup groups http://android.meetup.com/cities/us/92780/?sort=distance&radius=35 ) and possibly within all Southern California. It already incorporates all other true-Android community groups in the county (http://SoCalAndroid.Org) and adds http://OCJUG.Org (OC Java) and other related events & groups & classes to its calendar. Basically the place to be to be among the Android community in the OC, plus a model for other community tech groups.
Hi DestinyArchitect! yes, we welcome allies of any sexual orientation. There are gay and straight members, for instance, who have learned a lot about bisexuality from their participation in the group and come to our events because they enjoy the activities and enjoy our company :) so no worries! and welcome!
Hello there! Sorry couldn't make it the last time to the OC RSVP meetup. next meet up is a must attend. catch up soon Destiny and hope my pizza will still be warm LOL!
I don't know what what sort of "consent" you think I need, or what "warning" I need to give in order to start my own meetup group. Furthermore, I haven't the slightest idea why I would need to "explain [myself]" to you.
Like I said over a week ago, if you have something more you would like to discuss then you can email me.
What happened to the Mar 27 meeting? I was there.
Thanks Michale! I will definitely put your suggestions into consideration.
