Great work, Scott Drake! Wow, I'm quite impressed (and Bill was pleased, too). It's delightful to have another member (and not (yet) even a leader) also working to find us venue, and to have possibly found us something!

What of the criteria "venue of type" here does this venue fall short on & how? And which are you unsure about?

Especially if it meets the criteria, yes, Bill & I would like to visit, and Monday sounds good. What's time range?

  • "just found this thread. sorry for the delay."
We all have to workaround's bugs:

    • Keep an eye on your Meetup email especially on Greets on your profile and and your Meetup Greets.
    • And I didn't know you had replied until I noticed it about 45min after you posted this; you've got to send an alert as I did. As I did for you, when're ready for someone to reply to a thread, send them a Greet with the URL.
    • In short, you need to do --which I just wrote for you & others since Meetup doesn't tell you these essentials so of course you wouldn't know.
(Note: verifying this for you, I experienced initial page-failed-to-load opening this URL but now it works; if you have any trouble, report it on that page else here.)

  • "i dont know any more than i already posted " Then please try to find out per my question, as a visit would be in the middle of the work day and Bill would be driving all the way from Orange. Simply contact them and find out their answers to each of the criteria mentioned in my prior post and post here where they fall short. Also post a time a specific time we can go there. On about an hour notice, I can go, and Bill would like to, too, but we need to know in advance any criteria missing/short and what time exactly --per my prior post. Thanks.

I just finished calling John above. Got him on 2nd call.

  • He's a Senior Account Manager at ProSum.
  • He didn't know how Scott found him.
  • He hadn't seen our site but would look at it now. I gave him brief summary.
  • He already hosting thru Prosum the the Meetup Southbay Mobile User Group using a sizable Honda center near them.
  • The venue he's talking about is

    • Yes, central OC: at "2211 Michelson Dr # 840 \ Irvine, CA 92612 [(949) 732-1122] " --matches Google map entry -this is (also) right by John Wane airport, so central OC.
    • Yes, Free parking after 6pm in garage adjacent to building.
    • Mostly: 10 to 12 can sit at it's large table, plus chairs around room for up to 20; extra table space if brought a fold-up table.
    • Yes, can bring food as cafeteria is closed at that time; adjacent microwave & fridge.
    • Yes, office setting
    • Likely: Just installed a big LCD screen which may have an AV cable.
    • Yes, available now.
    • John would be available to show the room starting tomorrow; has an open schedule.

  • What is Prosum? Technology services company which provides placement (pay recruiter Prosum a finder fee which is a % of annual salary) plus "staffing agumentation" (where people work for Prosum as temporary contractors for other companies).
Generally work with Fortune 500 to 1000 cos but sometimes smaller. A MS & Citrus Partner. Have locations in OC & LA. Already working with 1 mobile tech group.
  • Yes, ProSum could also pay OCAndroid referral fees! (Related: see Our group getting respectably compensated for matching members to jobs). They have a standard contract for this. A causal referral they pay $500/placement. For a more involved referral (don't quite understand the distinction), they pay $1000/placement. Excellent! I explained it was about time OCAndroid got some income for the good work it provides.
  • I said I would talk with Bill & Scott and plan a visit as soon as possible, starting tomorrow.
  • During the call, John sent me this email

OCAndroid leaders and interested members,

The venue prospect detailed above (Prosum of OC), found by new member Scott Drake, indeed sounds like a very good venue for our developer hack nights --with the exception that sounds like it's limited to ~10 attendees with the current table space (a single big table) and, with additional table space, might be limited to 15; on they other hand, they offer OCAndroid a $500 referral fee! --for each coder OCAndroid sends them whom they place in a job. We can tour it anytime starting tomorrow, during normal business hours M-F.

Nearby we also have another venue prospect, RoundTable Pizza of Lake Forest, which just now I tentatively started reserving (remember our goal now is to have 2 good venue options at all times). This we can tour during their very wide business hours, which are about 9am to 10pm about 7 days/week.

ASAP (as tomorrow), as a group, I ask as many of us as can make it to tour these. What times can you make it? -post below and I'll select & schedule the time & let you know.

From what I know now

  • I can make it anytime and will go.
  • Bill is expected to go and probably can.
  • Scott found the 1st place so I expect he'll come.
  • Lucy plans to go.
  • I am especially hoping other leaders as Donna & Kathy will come, plus other interested members.

I just emailed announcement of this to all all OCAndroid members active in the last 3 months.

Great progress on your search and thanks to Scott for all his work! I'll be available tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon and evening, would prefer late afternoon if possible. Wednesday looks clear and would be better for me. Thursday's not good.

I know they say the journey is more important than the destination, but I hate driving. crying

Anyway, I'm in. 2pm or later is safest.

Wednesday would make more sense, since I'll be in both those areas that day, and don't need to do (much) extra driving.

Carpool? I'm at the 22 and 55, and can pick up anyone between here and there, or bum a ride from anyone who lives norther.
