Will upload some photos from Tent City soon, to show how the other half lives at Trail Days for those who couldn't make make it the our side for the fest. Just got off the road from my voyage to California!

So far not much of a party :-(.... rain, again, and lots of it. Not many people out and about, no one at the music venues. Friday around noon was ok, lot's of vendors, first rains came in about 3pm.

I just heard about the parade incident. Are all of our people okay? Anyone there when it happened?

    May 19, 2013

I am ok, wasn't at the parade, snoozin in camp instead. Campelot made the semi-official Tent City trail map! Cheebelly ok too, I haven't heard from the rest since the incident

Too bad phil to change plans midstream, no phone signal in Damasucks and no details here about his b&b location, lol

It was great until then. Good people, a lot of vendors and free swag and services.

I hope today is better! The parade and hiker talent show sounded like great fun. My side trip on the way there turned into an event with the guys father being in intensive care. Doesn't look like I'll make it.

I've made dinner reservations for SATURDAY at the Old Mill, at 6pm for SIX. That would be myself (+1) and then 4 others; If you want in let me know, because if we go over 6 I need to call and get a bigger table....

    Hey Everyone,
I'm new to this group and was wondering if anyone was going to the "Trail Days" festival in Damascus, Va. this year. I have wanted to attend for over a decade but one thing or the other blocked me from going. This year I have the time off from work and the funds to go but my truck has died.
Is there anyone who would like to carpool to the event this year. If you would like to carpool or know anyone who might want to, I will supply the gas to and from the event.

    Thanx,
    CheeseBelly

I finally got into a carpool ! ! ! I'm excited to experience being around thousands of like minded people even though camping is a little different than hiking.

Phil, do you want a set a rendezvous time, say at 7pm at my green
/|\ CAmPeLOt /|\ tent on Friday night in case we don't meet up earlier? (scope out the camping area earlier in the day so you know where my tent is at). Don't worry if it happens to be raining friday night for a while, a lot of the people set up large rain protecting tarps to gather under in event of rain.

    May 13, 2013

    • Phil

that sounds great; possibly then mosey over to someplace where we can eat, have a beer and tell lies.

      May 14, 2013

    • Mark U! ՟՜ ҉ ☺.

I think I'll rig up some kind of notebook & pen 'trail register' kind of device next to my tent in case someone wants to leave a note if I'm not at my tent.

after being in Damascus for the trip last weekend, I confirm that I don't have a phone signal there. I'll be findable in the camping area with a large green Coleman 6 man tent with possibly a tarp extending off the front and a sign that says /|\ CAmPeLOt /|\ . People at the tent that says 'Men of Shenaningans' may also where's I'm at. Ask for AC/DC

My wife and I are driving and cannot carpool. Mark is driving and cannot carpool. Meg is walking, and cannot carpool (duh!). That leaves Pam & +1, Jeff & +1, and Al (Cheese Belly); who needs rides?

    May 9, 2013

  • Meg

What a great idea! This is the biggest backpacking event on the East coast!

    April 5, 2013

    • Meg

Phil, I'm thinking I'll be there sometime in the firs two weeks in may. I may hitch a ride back to Damascus to go to the festival if I am too far north.

here's a video I made the awesome band I saw there, The Native Sway, from Boone, NC. Everyone was jammin' and trippin' at how awesome they were! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR3xM3Ti9ek

if you can do it, I'd suggest leaving Thursday morning to arrive Thursday afternoon. Parking and finding a prime camping spot will be easier, and you'll have more time to soak up the fun!

nothing much going on on Sunday, everybody just leaves in the morning, unless you figure out something in particular you want to do.

Some friends I know from the Hash House Harriers group are going too; those guys like to have fun.

I need a new 'Puked in my Tent' sticker for my nalgene bottle. I had a blast the 2 times I went. Depends what your idea of fun is, but I'll be partaking in the heavy drinking at night, if I'm not still recovering from the night before. Pretty much a string of camp parties at night, and probably a huge bon-fire and maybe a band. Hey I got lost in a tent one year!
During the day lots of vendors, presentations, hiking or biking, if you're up to it.
