Smartphone and Tablet usage is growing at an exponential rate. The integrated hardware capability on these mobile devices enable use cases that were previously unattainable. However, the current challenge to the industry is in adapting the legacy software to take advantage of these new devices both from a perspective of replicating the functionality on the new platform and enhancing the system to take advantage of the new platform. This is especially challenging for safety critical systems such as medical devices and automotive systems, where determinism is a necessary aspect of the platform.
This months talk describes the design methodology, verification framework and software architecture that was successfully utilized for a project where a Class III (highest level of safety) medical software that was previously housed on a Win CE netbook was ported to an Android 4.1 tablet platform.
Talk is given by Sri who was the former software engineering manager at Boston Scientific for 5 years and a senior research engineer at General Motors for 6 years. He has a Software Engineering MS from Carnegie Mellon and an Electrical Engineering MS from University of Michigan.
