*GAE is based on HADOOP(to do its BigTable storage,I think more),+why I got into Python (&I'm now even become the OCPython Co-organizer), as GAE is the hottest scalable web platform I know of available today, seemingly-uniquely allows the code one writes to support just one or a handful of users to immediately & automatically scale up millions or more simultaneous users! See more in the featured topic's discussion thread.
*This should also be a great demo of AngularJS, Python, & OCPython.
      2. MKA8A9: 1st really tested & demonstrated 2 new series features (commenting MKA7I7 and food MK97XF).
    20. MK9D75: members John Sheehan & Reyan Hewitt are event venue hosts, approximated here via the title Event Host, especially to auto-RSVP them as YES since they also most-always attend.

    3. MIUMRZ: During the event, or sooner, RSVP to our upcoming events whereever you can say MAYBE or YES.

    4. MKCFHG: in prep for post on matt's profile mentioning "offering training&hacking", updated title fr(OC-Python Main Meetup[masked](topics: suggest via cmts here!)+) to present; private RSVP Qs cnt 0 to 8 (replaced); pst[masked]Wed1658.
    5. MKDSD4: updated occurrences from MK8U24; changed title fr(OC-Python Main Meetup[masked](GAE, training&hacking, &more via cmts!)+) to present; [masked]Thu1028.
    6. MKRFVX: change venue; struck out MK96FL & MEQLGO & MEQLF3; added MKRFTO; replaced venue MKR80T with MKREJO; replaced "How to find us" from q(Everyone you find in the room at this time is there for this.) to present MKRHEP; for upcoming happenings (MK8UAX and subsequent) changed date from [masked]Tue[masked]~ to present; pst[masked]Thu1954.
    7. MKRLJR: Respectfully remove Ryan Hewitt as an "event host" (really just auto-RSVPed YES) for this series as he was a no-show last time (after saying just before he would always be here) moreover he was only "always" attending as he worked at that venue but we're now leaving it; added "Instructions for the Event Hosts" MKRLRN; pst[masked]Thu2216.
    8. MKRO49:unfortunately in that last operation, possibly because it moved the schedule 1 day sooner, Meetup.com bug caused it to loose the connection with the future events and doesn't any longer auto-repeat (though it says it does) and MKRO9L is the last event; this means the sync for those future events will have be done manually. Wait, I see the bug caused it to Set to "Stop repeating: 5/26/13"; changed it to "never"; pst[masked]Thu2226.
    9. MM1I8V: corrected date typo in MK8U24; since Meetup cutting private Qs from 8 to 6, cut the last 2; pst[masked]Mon1623.
    10. MM1LQZ: small updates to MK8UAX, including retitled from q(OC-Python Main Meetup[masked](GAE, SALT, training&hacking, &more via cmts!)+); pst[masked]Mon1742

A few random notes from last nights meeting:

Google fusion was mentioned multiple times throughout the evening. Fusion engine will not geocode in the backgrouund, only when table editor is connected.

There are a dozen pythons that run in the browser. Even XSLT in a browser. -- Dan

    Amazon EC2 vs GAE comparison.

edx.org giving away their core courses for free.

Hey guys, if you guys want to check on a project for geocoding, I'm trying to build a site for posting jobs and resumes. So whenever you type a skill, address, or company on the application, you'll e able to find work within the area. Here's the sample code on github: https://github.com/fritzdenim/asteriainteractive

    April 4, 2013

    • Steve S.

I don't know the details, but I'm gathering that we can't meet at SmartSoft anymore (possibly because it's shutting down?). I think this is a stop-gap meeting place until we can find a more well-equipped space. A few suggestions have been thrown at on mailing lists. I'm very confused by how all these forums, comments, and mailing lists work on meetup. It's all rather disjointed. But in any case, I'm sorry to hear about SmartSoft and hoping we can find another place that works as well for us.

What if we're going to check patterns of the problems, build libraries, discuss meetings about the libraries monthly, then use those libraries for next year's Google Code Jam! I'm pretty sure, it will be easier if we know how to use OCPUG libraries next year. All we need to do is call functions. It's legal!

I have a serious concern. The potential attendance fee is complete garbage. I have a serious problem against this.

We voted pretty solidly against having any attendance fee at the last meetup. I think only Michael or Dan can remove it though.

That's really nice to hear. I could see charging for a special event, but to have a mandatory entrance fee would make a lot of people reconsider showing up. Very happy to hear this is no longer an issue

      March 31, 2013

  • Steve S.

So this is maybe not a suggestion for next meeting, but I'd love to have someone do a presentation on how to properly use git/GitHub.

Certainly not Python-specific, but I'm sure something that would be very useful to any Python programmers who don't already use it (and selfishly I'd like someone to explain to me which commands I'm supposed to use and which I can just ignore as I'm just barely learning it).

I'd recommend sticking to git if you're going to use github. Mercurial has a neat wrapper that'll push a Mercurial repo into git, but it would be significantly easier to learn the basics of git.

I'm not good with git. I'm using svn. But it's good to know. Thanks for the advice.

Does anyone else have a hard time following all of the crazy font size changes and what not above? Can we use regular text?

    March 28, 2013

  • Steve S.

It was suggested that we do some more GAE (Google App Engine) stuff at the next session. I could spearhead a hackathon session on GAE.

    1 · March 26, 2013

    • Steve S.

So I'm thinking I'll update my previous doc/presentation (http://bit.ly/ocpugga...) to add a "getting started" kind of quick presentation. And then anyone who wants to "get started" or hack away on GAE, we can do a workshop or hackathon or whatever to start coding on GAE! Sound good?
