Join us for a
MOONLIGHT HIKE
Date: Monday February 25th
Time: 5:45pm
Meeting Location: We do not have a physical address, but very clear directions are given below.
Difficulty: moderate to difficult
Hiking Distance: 2 miles
After arriving at the parking lot, meet our group by the playground. There will be a lot of people at this event in addition to our group, so this will enable us to find each other and get our group together.
Though most parks are closed after dark, the folks in charge of Pine Mountain are looking to open up their trails for a night hike so that folks can enjoy the combination of a love for hiking, a night hike, and a full moon, all at it's best. This event is put on by the parks and recreation department of the City of Cartersville. The hike will begin at the West Trailhead and will embark on a 2 mile hike to the David G. Archer Overlook. The summit is 1,562 feet above sea level, and is the highest point in Cartersville, GA. From there, we will be able to take in a view of Allatoona Lake, the Etowah River Valley, and the lights of Cartersville. If it is a clear night, we will even be able to see some of the Atlanta skyline in the distance. We should be able to watch the sun set, and then get some great pictures of both the sunset and the full moon as it rises. We will then begin our descent down the mountain, and back to the parking lot.
While this hike is designed to take advantage of the light of the full moon, please be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp just in case.

Be sure to dress according to seasonal temperatures. Being an evening hike, and in the winter, it is recommended to dress in layers, and have a hat and gloves.
Please only RSVP if you fully intend to attend.

Directions:
Take I-75 to Exit 288, go East (right if coming from Atlanta) less than a quarter mile until the road appears to ends. Make a right at the Komatsu sign. Parking area for the West Loop Trailhead is on the left just before entering Komatsu. There is not a big sign, but you will see the entrance to the parking lot. After you park, meet our group by the playground. Since there will be a lot of people at this event, this will enable us to get our group together.
Please arrive early or on time
So when is this called off? It's cloudy w/ increasing chance of rain as the day goes on
February 25
As of right now, the weather channel calls for a 0% chance of rain prior to 7:30. Showers don't appear to be a possibility before 8. Full rain is not looking it will come until 9. I have been checking the forecast all day, it keeps getting moved further and further back. As of last night, it looked like the rain would arrive by 3. This morning it said 5, and then 6, etc. So as the day continues, it may get pushed even further back than 8. Our hike is only 1 mile each way, so it doesn't look like it will be an issue.

sounds interesting but there's no way I could make it from Marietta, specially with traffic at that time. I would like to go if you do one in the Marietta area.
