Join us for a challenging day hike and explore one of the most scenic sections of the Appalachian Trail! This hike is certain to get your heart pumping with 1,500 feet of ascent up Georgia's seventh highest peak, Tray Mountain. Winter views from the ridges and summits are stunning! From the rocky outcrops you'll see Lake Burton, Brasstown Bald, Mt Yonah, and wave after wave of the Blue Ridge mountains.

Our hike begins with the 1,000 foot moderate ascent to Tray Gap passing through the old site known as the Cheese Factory. We'll take a brief rest at Tray Gap and then begin the 500 foot steep ascent up Tray Mountain. This portion of the trail switchbacks up a rocky section with interesting boulders all around. We'll arrive at the summit of Tray Mtn with 360 degree views from a rock outcrop where we'll enjoy the views while enjoying lunch.
Please plan on spending the entire day with us hiking and then we'll head into Helen GA for some good beer and perhaps dinner.

Thanks for your reply Dante. Much appreciated. As much as I am up for a hiking workout and beautiful vistas, I am not eager for a possibly icy, curvy road to or from Chattanooga to trailhead. I will change my rsvp and hope someone else can join you.

Folks, please check your email shortly for updates on the hike tomorrow. It will be COLD and there is a chance of some spot rain/sleet/snow.

Will you be posting the trailhead? I'd be coming from Chattanooga not Atlanta.

Glad to see the hike has filled up! If you're plans have changed please be sure to update your RSVP. Being a 'no show' is not cool as it keeps others from coming.
