Ride the Silver Comet

Silver Comet Depot

Let's ride the Silver Comet Trail from the Silver Comet Depot to La Cocina in Dallas GA. The ride will have two options:

Silver Comet Depot to La Cocina, 18 miles one way, 36 miles round trip
Hiram Road trail head to La Cocina, 6.5 miles one way, 13 miles round trip.

When we get to La Cocina we'll take time for a leisurely lunch before beginning our return ride. My plan is to leave the Silver Comet Depot promptly at 10:00, arrive at Hiram Road trail head at 11:00 and depart Hiram Road at 11:15. That should put us at La Cocina at 12:15 - 12:30 for lunch.

The route looks something like this. Due to some oddities in Google Maps the route from the trail at Tara Drummon isn't correct, but overall that should give a good idea of where we'll be riding.

Coordinates for Silver Comet Depot (Floyd Road): 33°50'49.60"N, 84°35'8.26"W

Coordinates for Hiram Road Trail head: 33°52'56.69"N, 84°45'16.99"W

Couple of notes:

Helmets are mandatory.
This is a "no drop" ride, and the pace will be moderate, 10 - 12 MPH while we're riding.
A small tool kit and a spare tube or patch kit is recommended.
There are restrooms, water fountain, bicycle shop and other amenities at the Silver Comet Depot.
Restroom and water fountain at Hiram Road and Tara Drummond trail heads.

  Sorry I missed you. That was my bad. I assumed Silver Comet Depot was the beginning of the trail. That is where I always start. And I didn't know what the names were. I wasn't sure which one was Hiram either and probably got there after 11. I didn't see any kind of name at any of the stops. They aren't labeled well at all. Next time I'll be sure to ask what the mile marker is, much easier that way. I did make it out to MM21 at least.
