The 2014 Annual OCWW Walk, Sun. Sept. 21, 7:15 a.m.
On this our third dalliance, we’ll take along caffeinated products and do a writing crawl of about 1 1/2 miles, searching for metaphors through the Skokie Lagoons forest preserve. Wherever we stop, we’ll do a writing sprint.
There will be an annotated map
. We’ll meet at the parking lot at Willow and Frontage. It’s east of the Edens and to your left off Willow.
THE WALK’S WRITING CHALLENGE:
Walkers are eligible for a short story/essay competition. 7500 maximum word count. The general topic of which will be your recollections of landscape, man and nature, blood, toil, tears and sweat, or trek talk...whatever.Submission: on or before Thurs. Oct. 23 at an OCWW workshop. Anonymous and tendered at the check-in table in an unmarked manila envelope, labeled OCWW Walk Short Story Contest. Judges: A panel of OCWW editors will determine the winner. Award: The winner shall be announced at the Thurs. Nov. 20 OCWW workshop; the winning story will be read aloud to the workshop audience; the winner will be acknowledged in OCWW’s
, the OCWW website, and on FB. A fine prize shall be awarded, including a complimentary lunch at OCWW’s annual Holiday Party, this Dec. 11.
In the event of inclement weather: light rain, wear a mac; heavy rain--stay home, but meet us at 10 a.m. at Pinstripes.
