Hi Everyone!
Yes, I know...we are a ski and snowboard group, but what to do when the season is pretty much over is the question! Therefore, I've asked Nancy to add me as an Assistant Organizer so I can add this event (and hopefully many more) to our summer season.
LET'S GET READY TO DERBY!
LA Sirens vs. the Tough Cookies
Now if you've never gone to a roller derby game before, you're in for a treat! There is nothing like this event! An all time favorite member of our group, Laura, has turned some of us into roller derby fanatics. Below is a little excerpt from the Derby Dolls website about the upcoming event:
+++
The fast, furious and fearless L.A. Derby Dolls (www.derbydolls.com/la), Southern California's premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league, rolls into summer with a much-anticipated re-match between the Sirens and reigning champions, the Tough Cookies.
The two all-star heavy teams will face off for the first time since Novembers nail-biting championship bout. Two thousand breathless derby fans hung onto the edge of their seats as the underdog
Cookies claimed victory by only two points in the last jam.
Now, the Sirens are pulling up their fishnets and planning revenge. The 2007 champions new captains recently led their girls in blue to a close victory against freshman team, the Varsity Brawlers. The officers will patrol the track again, anchored by three lightening-speed jammers: Kung Pow Tina, V. Lee and Mila Minute. Paired with crushing blockers Killo Kitty and P.I.T.A., the Sirens form a fierce force on the banked track.
The Cookies haven't skated in a game since January, where they narrowly defeated the rejuvenated Fight Crew. Cookies captain Iron Maiven and co-captain Gori Spelling are eager to reclaim their dominance. The Cookies major crusher Krissy Krash, white-hot jammer Laguna Beyatch, and blockers Kelly Kaboom and LEGacy will show the Sirens their victory was no fluke.

There are really no signs on the venue (other than the occasional flyer) that say "The Doll Factory". Basically, it looks just like a warehouse from the outside and the entrance is through a gate on the south side off of Temple on North Westlake Avenue. I will be getting there at 5:45 pm in order to get in and secure an area in the General Admission area. I'm shooting to be in the center of the track on the second level up.
Tickets are $17 a piece online and $20 at the door (if you're lucky enough that they haven't sold out). VIP tickets are also available for $40 each, but we will not be sitting in that area, so you'd be on your own. All tickets can be purchased at http://www.derbydolls....
Please be advised, this event is for members 21 years old and over only. You will be required to show ID at the door. No outside food or beverage is allowed inside the venue, so either eat beforehand or purchase pizza or Hot Dog On A Stick at the event. Additionally, NO CAMERAS ARE ALLOWED INTO THE EVENT! Leave them in your car for the after-party!
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and general parking is available for $8 at Silver Lake Medical Center, 1711 West Temple (near the intersection of Temple and Union), one block east of the Doll Factory.
And yes, as mentioned, there is usually an after-party who's location is disclosed at the end of the game. Last time we went it was at La Cita on Hope Street, but that's not confirmed for this time. We could always just create our own after-party too!!!
So sign up and buy your tickets on line! Hope to see you there!
Katie
