Ghost Runners 5K Dog Run

Fundraiser 5K Run/Walk with Dogs to benefit Heartland Weimaraner Rescue.

Come join the Ghost Runners 5K Dog Run on Sunday, October 27, 2013. The 5K starting time is 2:00 p.m.

If you don't want to participate in the run, come for the Ghost Runner PET EXPO from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the general public. The event is at Stars & Stripes Park, Lake Hefner, OKC.

NOTE: Dogs must be leashed and runner friendly! One dog per participant. Dogs must be current on vaccinations, not be in heat, and not be aggressive. Leashes and tags must be worn at all times.

From the Ghost Runners 5K website:

This event is hosted by the Heartland Weimaraner Rescue to focus attention and education on Dog Rescue Services, Pet Health and Wellness. Our 5 km course is certified and our event sanctioned by USA Track & Field.

Awards will be given for the top 3 male and female runners with dogs and the top 3 male and female without a dog. The first, second and third place male and female in each USATF 5 year agegroup will also receive an award.

New This Year - Kids 1 Mile Run
The race will also be expanding this year to include a one mile fun run prior to the 5k, which will start at 1:00 p.m. Children up to age 12 are invited to participate in the fun run and will have the opportunity to win prizes.

Run With Your Dog!
The Ghost Runner 5K is proud to have been the first sanctioned event in Oklahoma to allow runners to be accompanied by their K-9 friend and receive times and awards.

Participants are encouraged to bring their dogs to the event and will be allowed to complete the entire run with them as long as the dogs are leashed and runner-friendly. Heartland will allow one dog per participant, and requires that all dogs be on leashes at all times, current on vaccinations, not be in heat, and not be aggressive.

Stay For The Ghost Runner Pet Expo!
Local area animal groups and businesses are invited to attend the event. A designated area will be set up for booths from noon – 5 p.m. In addition to the booths there will be numerous activities, including pet/owner costume contests, micro-chipping and a large kid’s area with face painting, a moon bounce and crafts. Money raised from the ‘Ghost Runners 5K Dog Run’ will be used to assist Heartland with medical and foster expenses for dogs in the program.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
