Hi,

Interesting idea.  I am sure there is plenty of opportunity for those interested to get to learn more about distro's and what makes them tick.  Best of luck with the project.

Hi Toki,

Long story short, people in Dubai really should know more about Linux in general and Ubuntu specifically but since I've been a member of the official lightweight variant of Ubuntu which is Lubuntu for a year or so now, plus I have good experience with Lubuntu, that inspired me to start a project based on Lubuntu (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu#Lubuntu_VS_Ubuntu) with Dubai Flavor and not planning to do huge changes, that is too early now.

Lubuntu is very easy but needs some little bit of knowledge so I think my job is going to be how to make DubaiOS as simple as possible and that what I do best, train and explain to people how to get the best of their system.

I need to see how many people would be interested
I need to have a team who is going to build it after I'm done with step 1 above.
Then after that if everything is okay, for sure, the system will be improved even better.

I may ask Lubuntu Developers to help but I think having someone from Dubai who live there and know more about Dubai is better to take that task.

I'm not looking at big team, 1 or 2 people in each task will be great at the beginning.

Any help would be great :)

One thing I'd like to ask is what's the use-case scenario you are targeting with DubaiOS? Is there going to be something that makes it easier for Dubai residents to adopt Windows-alternatives? I can't think of anything myself. I'll be glad to help with it if there's anything I can do.

Hi Ali
Thanks for the  mail
I would like to contribute, but not sure in which area should I.
What about this, I do free LINX  installation and training for office boys, who has old PC and laptop, why not I try out with them.
I was previously trying out Mint Xfce, but I faced post installation issues, and lated I switched backed in giving  Ubuntu.
Since this users are end users, the lose confidence on us if the some issues happen

Thanks
Joseph John

Subject: [EmiratesLoCo] DubaiOS

Dear all,

It's been ages I haven't shown up but I have had very tough times. The last month, in one week, I lost two dear and close persons to me and it was a huge loss.
I'm trying to get myself together and start doing something for my team and the whole community and here I'm, trying to do something.

I have given it some thoughts and decided to start a project called DubaiOS.
It's a Linux OS based on Lubuntu. Why Lubuntu? because I have more experience in Lubuntu than anything else beside I will use Ubuntu Repository eventually which is good start.

I'm building my team then start building the system but first thing first, I will do more marketing and advertising stuff to see if this is all a good or bad idea.
Not sure how many people over there in Dubai who really know about Linux?

Because DubaiOS is going to be based on Lubuntu, that means the range of machines it will work on is great. From 10 years old to a brand new one, DubaiOS should work.

I'd like to present this here and if you have any question, I will be glad to answer. And I hope some of you could join my team to build this system :)

Thank you!
