ORG Edinburgh Cryptoparty with SCRIPT

ORG Edinburgh are organising a Cryptoparty in collaboration with SCRIPT - The University of Edinburgh's Centre for Studies of Intellectual Property and Technology Law.

The aim of the Cryptoparty is to teach attendees how to install and use encryption programs such as GPG, OTR and Tor.

These programs help to secure our online communications, which in the wake of the Snowden revelations, seem more vital than ever.

No prior technical expertise or knowledge is assumed, so beginners are welcome. However, you will require a laptop so please bring one along with you.

If you’re an advanced cryptography user and would like to volunteer at the event by sharing your skills with others, please just leave us a comment below.

The event will provide a fun and informal way to meet with other local ORG supporters, as well as an opportunity to learn more about encryption, so we hope to see you all there.

Unfortunately as the room is on the third floor of the Old College the event is not accessible to wheelchair users, but we hope to hold another Cryptoparty soon which will be.

Thanks to SCRIPT for hosting!

Friendly people from ORG willing to share their expertise with complete noobs, helping to make our internet use that bit more secure. :)

Room was inadequate with not enough power sockets for those who attended. The format of the meeting could have been vastly improved had the organisers come with prepared material. The lecturers that ran it said "I don't know" more often than giving a concise answer. I was very disappointed as I believed that this was the faculty that were on the leading edge of research in this area. There were no examples or tutorials and the 2 hours felt like a shambles to me.
