Cross Country Skiing

A perfect trip for first timers and those that have skied before. Spend a day gliding alongside lakes, through meadows and forests on meticulously groomed ski trails. No experience necessary – it’s easy to learn. We’ll cover everything you’ll need to know to get you on your way. Includes continental breakfast and picnic lunch.

Discover the scenic beauty and peaceful tranquility of the Hudson Highlands on this winter’s day. We will ski through hardwood and hemlock forests, and alongside meadows and lakes on the park’s 15 kilometers of machine groomed ski trails which are perfect for all experience levels.

Please note that you must register and book this trip on the Outdoor Connections website to reserve your spot. See link below ....

XC Skiing in the Hudson Highlands

The day will begin by getting everyone outfitted with all our ski gear at the parks full service winter facility. We will then go over all the basic techniques and skills to get you ready to hit the trails. Starting out on level terrain we will cover the ‘glide’ and ‘kick’ motion, stopping, falling (or avoiding it) and getting up, maneuvering, turning, ascending/descending, etc. The basic movements are very natural and can be learned quickly and easily, also it is an excellent activity for providing a full body cardiovascular workout (remember the Nordic Track - Scandinavians swear by it!).

The diverse terrain of this park affords plenty of gentle trails for first timers just learning the sport as well as challenging terrain for the more adventurous skier. Your day of guided ski touring will consist of exploring the trails for approximately 5-6 hours as we glide past lakes, streams, old stone walls and granite rock outcroppings all of which provide a visually pleasing and picturesque setting for our day of outdoor adventure. Want to take a break? Stop by the outdoor fireplace to warm yourself up or head into the cozy café for a snack. Food, beverages, restrooms and changing facilities are available for your convenience.
Trip includes all ski rental equipment, transportation costs, licensed guide, ski day pass, basic instruction, continental breakfast, and picnic lunch. At the end of the day you’ll bask in the glow of your accomplishments on this true wintry Iditarod-esque adventure.

About winter trips – We carefully keep tabs on the weather forecast and prevailing snow conditions for each trip. You will be notified in advance if we believe existing conditions are likely to comprise the quality of the trip (lack of snow, severe weather forecast, etc). In this instance we will do everything possible to accommodate our guests which may include rescheduling, change venues, etc.

All trip details and final trip itinerary will be e-mailed to all registered guests the week of the trip date.

Yup, both xc ski areas that we go to are currently not open due to bare spots out on the trails. With no new snow forecasted this week, it looks like the 26th date is a no-go unfortunately. We do have another date - Feb 9th - so we are hoping we get some snow before then!!

Jim, are you serious that we may not be on for 26th! When will we know?

    Hi Patricia-

We would go to 1 of 2 places in NY state. For this Saturday, both those places are currently closed so unless we get some decent snow, we will postpone this trip to February...Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim :) Are you guys going in Northern NJ? I might be able to meet you guys there.

    Hey Guys-

Yup, most (if not all) the folks will be first timers. Glad you guys can join us! The 'self drive' option is a great way to save a little $ if you have your own car. We will send out locale and directions the week before the trip to all the 'self drivers'. When you get the chance, please sign up to make sure your spot is reserved as we will keep the group size small....Any questions, just ask...

    Thanks, Jim

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
