Upcycling and Net-Positive Design Chalk-Board

Have you ever wanted to know more about what up-cycling and net positive designs are? Well come along to this exciting presentation by Rob from www.madeforward.com.

Get inspired as we go through loads of examples, DIY projects and up-cycling ideas anyone can do at home.

MadeFoward seeks to empower people and communities of all economic levels, to take positive action in creating global wellness.

We produce over 53 million tonnes of waste in Australia so we if want to actively try to decrease this figure we can start by converting some of that 'waste' into products of value. With a little creativity, some intelligent designs and a different perspective of how we view 'waste', there are so many possibilities for repurposed, innovative, beautiful products.

We don't however want to just create more rubbish or disposable products from our upcycled waste, instead we are looking for these new designs to have a positive and enduring impact on the planet and the people living on it.

We will discuss some of the implications and theories behind net-positive impact design and how this can be incorporated into your current lifestyle.

AMAZING! See you there :)

Thank you all for coming on the weekend: I hope the session was informative and you walked away better for it! I have written a little blog post (http://www.madeforward.com/?p=170) which includes links to many of the ideas we touched on. Have also put a couple of photos on my facebook page: check them out here: http://on.fb.me/1oyrY1k .

Thanks again: i look forward to seeing you all again before too long!

Thanks Rob for a very good session. You mentioned mushroom growing using coffee grounds as the substrate (growing medium). So I did a little research and found this presentation by Mrs Chido Govera of Zimbabwe. She started supporting her family when she was a 7 year old orphan, (she is now 27) and has since trained people all over the world in mushroom growing using coffee grounds (or whatever material is at hand). Watch her story. I think this is simply one of the most inspiring videos on the net. Brilliant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I--vzakqqN0

Very well run and thought provoking! Would love to hear if anyone finds some good skills building sessions/courses - not sure I should be let loose with a welder just yet.

Hey Upcyclers, just confirming everything for tomorrow. The graduate centre is right behind the Ship Inn at Southbank: there is parking on Sidon St, and also on Dock St and Lower River Terrace.

I've organised some little snacks for morning-tea; we have about 25 RSVP's (across a couple of different platforms) so it should be a really interesting discussion! If you have any questions or need to contact me, give me a buzz on[masked] 872.

Look forward to chatting with you tomorrow!

Rob, I have an old PC laptop that switches on but struggles with doing too much else. Is this something that you could use for an upcycle project?
