On Saturday, April 20, we plan to hike the Kuaokala Trail. This will require us to pass a checkpoint at the bottom of the hill, then follow a zig zag road up the ridge. There will be another checkpoint at the top of the ridge. We will then drive toward a parking area about ½ mile away. We will walk on a trail on the side of Manini valley then emerge on a bulldozed road at the top of the ridge. We will follow this road to Makua valley and have lunch. We will meet at 8:30 AM in front of Kenny’s Restaurant at the Kamehameha Shopping Center on School Street in Kalihi. Only 5 cars will be allowed in our group, so we will have to carpool at the Kamehameha Shopping Center or carpool at the parking lot near the bathrooms at Yokohama Bay.
This hike offers stunning views of the Waianae Coast and Makua Valley. You’ll feel as if you’re in a plane looking down. Here are some pictures I took the last time I was there: http://www.hawaiiwebstore.com/kaena

Bring lunch, sunscreen, a coat (it may get cool), a poncho, and water.
