Susan Wallace, L.Ac.,[masked] of Albany Acupuncture was our speaker and did a fabulous job explaining neurotransmitter and hormone testing to see how we can support our ADHD brains. I especially enjoyed the zinc taste test to see if we needed more zinc in our systems to support our thyroids, etc. The analogy of our dopamine being a ping pong ball in play and that medication causes the ball to stay in play longer was really thought provoking. What if there isn't a ball/dopamine to put into play? What happens when our dopamine gets exhausted? Creating more dopamine for attention, calmness, the reward response through supplementation and life style changes might be worth it if it we knew our ADHD could be more manageable and hence, our lives more manageable and more rewarding. Same thing with Serotonin, what if we could go to sleep, stay asleep and sleep well? Life would be worth living! Yes..
    Here's to our brains.
    Yours,
    April

Sounds interesting! I am curious as to what she will be talking about regarding "testing"? I would be more interested in what we can do naturally to get our neurotransmitters & hormones back in balance. I have had ADD probably since I was a kid, but menopause has seemed to make it worse.
I live in SF and used to go to a support group here years ago, but it folded because we weren't organized enough. I like the idea that this is a moderated group. I might be interested to go to it more regularly to learn skills, gain support, etc., ...

Hopefully drop ins are ok? I told a couple of friends who might be particularly interested & they said yes! They are not in the meetup group yet, but may join?

    Hi Everyone,
Tomorrow the testing our speaker Susan Wallace, L.Ac. will cover is called neuroendocrine testing and it measures key neurotransmitters and hormones. It looks at the state of your nervous system, which is the body's mission control. So just like our genetic makeup, neurochemical profiles are unique to every individual. Symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, fatigue, AD/HD, and many others may result from imbalances in multiple neurotransmitter and/or hormone systems.
Susan Wallace is going to talk about how to balance those naturally to support our AD/HD and our entire system overall.
    Thanks!
