As the year comes to an end and the holiday's are on our mind, it's a time of celebration and festivities and also remembering those who are less fortunate. Each Christmas, we reach out to the children of Oakland with it's annual toy drive to benefit the Oakland Fire Departments Random Acts of Kindness program - by providing toys for disadvantaged children.
The Oakland Firefighters Random Acts of Kindness is an in house non-profit organization staffed by firefighter volunteers. The organization distributes toys to families throughout the City of Oakland during the holidays. Toys are delivered by Oakland Fire Engines directly to the homes of the families.
Our friends at The Trappist in Oakland are again sponsoring the event with a special offer. Bring a toy for a boy or girl (ages 16 and under), and get a token for any beers, (note: all gifts should be regular sized items, not a handful of marbles or a dime store toy.) If you can’t make it at the times we’ve posted, please come at any time up until 3:00 PM.
The Oakland Fire Department will be on hand with their ladder truck on display to meet with their friends at Oakland Happy Hour. We'll have some appetizers and other goodies to go along with your beer. If you like, you can climb on the ladder truck and have your picture taken with members of the Oakland Fire Department.
Providing an underprivileged boy or girl a gift for the holidays is a wonderful gesture, and a great way to open the holiday season.
Transportation: Don't drive! The Trappist is just a few blocks from the City Center BART station. If you have to drive, there's street parking.
I hope to see you for this fun event.
