I am an assistant organizer of Afterguard Academy in Oakland. Plan on going sailing on the Sunday before Valentine's Day . Come sail and wear something red and/or pink to celebrate the sweetest day of the year. Sail from 11-4. Come as early as 10 to help rig the boat if you want to learn. Guys can bring beverage to share and ladies can bring sweet treat if you prefer.

Please wear shoes that are boat-friendly and non-marking. Portable music is welcome.

Small fee of $20 per person helps toward fuel and boat expenses. Please sign up online. Plan to get in around 4pm so we are docked before it gets dark or too cold.

Again: is the photo above (boat w/7 sails up) the boat we will be sailing on? What are the stats on this vessel? (Length; draft; etc.) Thank you in advance for clarification.

The sail will be on smaller boats two at 26' and one 35' all have 2 sails.
The image was just a fun one with a heart. Will sail toward the Bay, Alcatraz, in full view of the Bridge but not to it.

Golly folks. I'm not liking the forecast :-( I haven't bought foulies yet, so a greater than 50% chance of rain counts me out.
I am in Sacramento,,,, I may have to bug out last minute. So unless your forecast for this afternoon says something better than the 70%chance I am reading, you may have an empty seat to fill with a standby. :-( Stay dry!

We ended up having more people than expected and everyone had a great time sailing. Thanks to all who came and make it a wonderful memory!

2 were scared off by the weather prediction. 20 had a great time. Afterguard grads and Hugh from the Afterguard/Avion race team joined the flotilla to an Angel Is raft-up. Once settled we had a fun pot-luck to share the amazing goodies most all contributed to. As for who brought the best "sweet thing" OMG Jackie. Next trip - Jackie goes free.

Meet other Sailors, from experts to those who have never tried it - and those just out of classes but still new to the sport/lifestyle. Oakland Sailing Meetup Group (OSMG) welcomes all (and kids often go free).

We sail for the love of sailing and to practice. Our practice outings include: sunset sails, casual fun regattas, Bay cruises, loops around an island, sail to SF city front. Try a sail to an island raft-up or a photography sailing tour of San Francisco Bay. We often enjoy great food - BBQs at Afterguard's site, post sail pot-lucks or provided, on-board cooking competitions for progressive lunches. Foodies love our events.

GO SAILING - It is easy to get aboard with OSMG - there are lots of boats. Event cuts offs are set as close to the sailing event as possible. If at the last minute you can go - call the posted numbers. Won't check email when it gets too close to the "cast off" point. You don't want to miss the boat.

Members: If you have an idea for a sail or group event - email it in. This is your group too.

For those who have never sailed before we'd love to help you find out if sailing is all you dreamed and more. With all the fun options with Oak Sailing Meetup Grp you can decide what kind of sailing you like. Casual, race, adventurous, fair weather - It's all good. Taken lessons - this a great place to practice. Even experienced sailors say they always learn something when they sail with Oakland Sailing Meetup Group.

April-October 6-8:30 pm we sail every Wed. Once a month is a post sail wine tasting and foodie event. Often the wine is accompanied by music members bring their instruments to play individually or together. These events are lots of fun.

Want to learn to sail? We meet at Afterguard Sailing Academy - the Bay Area's most affordable professional sailing school - the little school with heart. Afterguard is a for-profit professional school for all ages that hosts a Non-Profit focused on teaching sailing to inner city HS kids during the school year. As a school Afterguard works with families and couples on the same boat. Sounds like 'Dah' yet many professional schools force families or couple to separate to different boats to learn. Sailing to Afterguard is a shared sport - learning how to share sailing, a family recently noted, helps them at home to get along and get things done. Afterguard enjoys the reputation as the school that provides excellent sailing ed, personal attention and a place where you learn to sail really well. Oakland Sailing Meetup Group started as an affordable way for those who finished classes to sail for fun and practice - often.
