Removing Weeds From a Pathway/Stairway (#9)

We will meet at the bottom of this stairway that probably doesn't have a name so I gave it the name "Barrows-Holman" because it goes between those 2 streets. The stairway bottom is between 2 houses with the numbers 1329 & 1337 Barrows Road so I gave it the address 1333 Barrows Road. It is close to the intersection of Barrows Road & Trestle Glen.

The problem for this stairway like the other ones we did is plant overgrowth so the best gardening tool for attendees to bring is shearers. Also, one should bring gloves, water to drink & paper towels. Hoes, rakes and brooms will help too. I will bring 3 shearers and enough garbage bags for us. We will be working for 2 hours or a little less.

This is our third weed removal on this pathway. On July 15, 2012 we had 7 volunteers removing the weeds and filling up 23 garbage bags. The last time we worked on this pathway was Sept. 2, 2012, with 5 volunteers. Over 10 months of plant growth is starting to hinder walking through there.

To look for the location on Google Maps "1329 Barrows, Oakland, Ca" is probably the best to put in. We will work for about 2 hours, but it is OK to be late or stay for just one hour.

Very satisfying day. A good amount of cleanup got the stairway looking spiffy.

We had a couple of people join us who heard of our pathway cleanup from Oakland Urban Paths, an Oakland walking group. We did a terrific job even though we only filled up 6 big bags with clippings. See the photos.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
