Musical Jam Session at Greg’s House:

  • February 5, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

I’m starting this bi-weekly event to provide a venue for the musicians in our group who would like to get together on a regular basis and play music. It’s open to all levels, all instruments and all ideas. Think of it as a musical incubator concept where style and selection is up to the group and will evolve over time as we get to know each other, our musical preferences and skills.

Hey Toby, I've heard of the SOJO meetup. A friend belongs and says it's a good group, only issue he has is the logistics, i.e., parking isn't close so it might be a walk.

Hello musicians, a friend just forwarded me a music focused meet up to share with you all that I think we might enjoy. http://www.meetup.com/folkSOJO/
I just requested to join a moment ago, so I still don't know where they meet, but depending on location I might go to some and see how it goes.

I just saw the start time is at 6pm, I thought it was later. If a slot opens up, I would be able to join you. Otherwise catch you next time.

I play a lot ot instruments. In college I had my own 4 piece band, leading and playing sax and flute. Recently I have been exploring all types of percussion including african and native American drums. I can play almost anything by sight and am working on developing improvization skills. I have been a member of the Patomac River jazz club which has a lot of local performances. I would like to join this group.

Just wondering... do you have a PA you use?

We will have plenty of extra acoustic guitars, right Joe, Tody and John?

Ok, I will bring my electric and a small amp. I don't turn it up very loud; I just wanted to make sure this wasn't exclusively for acoustic guitar players. If you want to add jazz, that would be great! I have all of the real books. Something simple like Blue Bossa might be fun.

What sort of music do you all like to play?

I sing and play guitar (somewhat). My son should be in town. He plays guitar well, and loves to jam.

Makes sense--I will "un-invite" myself so that "someone" with credible musical talent can participate. Thanks. I can always videotape at the fireside chat!

Is this just for musicians? Or can people come to just enjoy the music?

    January 15, 2014

So, groupies who bring (good) wine and beer are not welcome yet. Hmmm...I am guessing this will change at some point! :p

We are trying to just see who plays what, If you rsvp tell us what you play!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
