Theocracy in 40 years?

"But philosophically, and historically, the ultimate culprit is Immanuel Kant. At this year's OCON conference at Telluride, Leonard Peikoff warned that, thanks to Kant's influence, Western culture is headed for total disintegration, and that if trends are not corrected and reversed soon, the United States could indeed become a theocracy inside of forty years. The growth of Bible studies in public schools is simply one premonitory manifestation of the trend that substantiates his prediction.

Objectivists, Peikoff said, are in the same historical circumstance as the Spartans at Thermopylae. We are the only ones who advocate reason. Or perhaps we could see ourselves as Athenians and aim for a Marathon. Either way one looks at our dilemma, however, we should not let the enemy pass without a fight."

That's from Ed Cline's latest at the Rule of Reason. Read the rest at http://ruleofreason.b...

I don't think we will have a theocracy in 40 years. More socialism, perhaps, but not a theocracy. The reason I say this is because there are a lot more atheists in the country today that are more organized in the past. (unfortunately, many of them are for socialism too.)

Bill Bucko's comment was the best haha.

Regarding teaching the bible in school. Does it belong? I would not be opposed to an elective class that studied the bible purely from a literature stand point. However, I am not sure that most public schools could present it in a way that most would be comfortable with for that to happen. I actually started reading the bible again about 2 years ago, and found it a lot more interested and fun to read than I ever did when I had to read it to "understand truth" yadda yadda yadda.

Interesting blog posting. Sparrowhawk sounds interesting.

If we're going to teach the bible in public schools to understand english literacy, then we should also teach the Quran to understand the psychological aspects of the greatest philosophical struggle in our time, and especially the Tora to understand how to become money grubbing cheapskates conspiring for world domination.

And the Buddhist scriptures. Just for kicks.

Hey, why not? But I guess it could get out of hand....we may want to add the study of the Flying spaghetti Monster as well, so all of us Pastafarians wouldn't be offended and can be understood. http://www.venganza.o...
