Meet at Java, and Walk Beach Toward Sloat and Back

"So, yeah, I was laid off a few weeks ago, and wondering if there're any others around who'd be interested in an hour or so morning beach walk/hike on Tues and Thurs.....? Start like 8-8:15am and do an hour or so. Meet outside Java Beach Cafe at Judah and La Playa (N turnaround at beach), cross-over Great Hwy, then do the dunes and open portion of beach toward Sloat and back. At least for starters. I gotta clear my head some, beat a bit of allergies, and just get the body/mind/spirit moving for some fresh start motivation. Anyone interested? I've been resident of SF 20+ years, last 10 or so years near 28th and Judah, and interested in writing, music, arts, theatre, sports, outdoors, camaraderie....and/or just plain old peace and quiet on a walk. Laughs welcome. Not sure if dogs are ok along here, or no? Metal detectors and plaids optional. Anyway, let me know if you're interested. If you're out by Sloat side of equation, and want to start there and meet us halfway, let's complicate it and try that, too. Half and half."

Late Friday afternoon, I was requested to come in for a third job interview early Tuesday afternoon, so unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this walk! My sincere apology to Donna, Frederick, and anyone else who planned to join in with me! If anyone can take the lead on this, please let us know! Otherwise, I'll try to re-schedule this for a later date. Again, my apology, but being laid off recently, I've got to put first things first! Thank you, and enjoy all your OB adventures!

Completely understandable, Mark. The best of luck to you on your interview. Frederick, I'll still show up at the designated location/time for a walk. Hope to see you there. Donna

Hi Frederick, sorry for the late notice on this, but I just really feel like my focus has to be elsewhere (job opp) that morning and afternoon. If you decide not to take over lead for this walk, just let us know here, and we'll re-schedule the whole thing. No pressure.

Oops, I didn't see the photos either! Meetup.com doesn't make it easy to know about them. Btw, my name is Donna, but Shanelle is my pen name of sorts.

Karen, no problem! Why emphasize my face, when I can emphasize a cool wave? The Oceans are way more important! Best, Mark

Thank you, Karen. I believe there should be 5 photos showing for me here, but if not, I will indeed either describe what I'm wearing that morning, and have the meetup sign. Chances are a red fleece vest will be involved. My intention is to wait outside Java Beach by the telephone pole and news racks right smack dab on that cafe's corner, not inside of cafe. Thank you for the reminder. If anyone is starting from Sloat Beach, just start from there at 8:15am, and head north toward Cliff House with eyes open for us. Look forward to some other folks joining me on the corner (outside) at Java Beach around 8am for 8:15am hike/walk start.

Mark - since you don't have a photo - please make sure you have a way for people to find you at Java Beach. You can post or email your cell phone number to attendees, or tell them where you will be sitting or what you will be wearing, or you can use a meetup sign for your table. The meetup sign is available on this site - go to the top menu under "more" and then "files" and you can download the pdf of the sign. There's nothing more frustrating than going to a meetup and not finding the host. Thanks!

    Hello All,

I believe the distance between Lincoln and Sloat along the Great Hwy is approx 2 miles one way. I'm in Marin right now, so can't check that, but as I recall that's the distance. At a very average/slow pace of 2-3 mph walking, we'd be up at Sloat say in 45 minutes from Java/Judah beach entrance. So, what people starting from Sloat could do is just time it to leave Sloat Beach parking lot at approx 8:15, while we leave Java/Judah at 8:15, and just meetup halfway. I can't spend 2-3 hours walking the beach these mornings, but can do an hour or so. The idea is to get this started, and people can join in / drop off as their own situation works out. Personally, I plan to meetup at Java Beach Cafe corner, and leave there PROMPTLY at 8:15am.....walk 30-40 minutes toward Sloat....then turn around and come back at that point, as that's the amount of time I can commit. Others may want to go all the way to Sloat and back, or meet us halfway from Sloat and do their own u-turn back.

When do you think you would be at Sloat? I live about half an hour walk from Sloat & Great Highway. This idea sounds great except it seems early... Okay, so, uhm, I am not a morning person... And I'd like to start getting up earlier, so maybe this is just what I need to make that happen ;-).

I'm on the Sloat side but will meet you at Java to keep it simple.

Hey Karen, We all saw layoff coming, so wasn't a big surprise. Been wanting to get out for more energy/exercise anyway with DST arrived, so it works out. Keep "mah mind" right. This can be a positive/upbeat or reflective or however kind of walk/hike, just think it'd be nice to do it with others. Anyone interested or with questions, just rsvp or post a note! Best, Mark

Mark - so sorry to hear it. I changed the posting to be for the one date - since each meetup needs to have a unique date, but you can post others for additional days. There is also a way to set it up as recurring if people show interest.
