Launch site is confirmed to be Wendy Park. The Shoreway Eastbound is reported to be closed presumably for the Triathlon. So if you are coming from the west to the Shoreway go left at Don"s Lighthouse restaurant on Lake and follow to Detroit Rd. Go left on Detroit and follow to W 49th Street where you will go left. This will take you ti the jughandle turn onto the Shoreway westbound which will take you to the Edgewater/whiskey Island exit.
We will be joining up with the Brad Street folks...
Below is a message from the event coordinator. Please contact her directly if you can and are able to assist. This is not a beginner kayak event. Brad Street is the primary support kayak organization so we will help them with more kayakers as needed. This is an important Cleveland sporting event so please make an extra effort to do the early rise and lend a hand.
Hope everyone is enjoying the cooler temperatures and a bit of drying out!
This Sunday, August 4th is the Cleveland Triathlon!
Road closures begin by 5am, so be sure to carpool or arrive early enough to get through.
Please make sure you have all your personal safety gear and needed equipment checked out and ready to go before that morning - BC's, Tanks, PFD's, whistles, marker floats, radios, etc. We will provide a limited number of radios that are either FRS, marine, walkie-talkie style, but if you have one or a pair, please bring them. Wrapped in a ziploc works well as an attempt at waterproofing. The only radio we've lost in my 18 years of participating is the one I dropped directly into the water while assisting a swimmer from the shore! haha, sad but true.
Safety boat plans to arrive in NCH by 5am or shortly after and begin placing course markers. Once complete, divers will be ferried out and dropped along the course.
Kayakers to leave their launch point at sunrise and paddle into the Harbor.
First wave of the SuperSprint starts at 6:45am
First wave of Sprint starts at 7:10am
First wave of Olympic distance race starts at 7:40am
First wave of Youth category starts only after all Olympic distance swimmers are out of the water.
Once all swimmers are out of the water, and the course cleared of markers, we'll meet at the traffic circle of the transition area for a light lunch and t-shirt distribution.
Thank you all in advance for your enthusiasm and willingness to volunteer at this event!!
Please forward to anyone I may have missed on the email list!
