Cleveland Sea Kayaker Ideas

Hi  Everyone,

I am still coming up to speed with being the organizer so bear with me as I work through the Meetup website and get to know members.

As you may know the Air Show Paddle is posted.   Sure would like to see more join in,  but, understand that many have previous commitments and notice was short.  Thanks to all who signed up.  Should be  a fun outing.  There is food available at the Sunset Grill at Whiskey Island if anyone wants to eat on the turnaround break.  This paddle will be a combo-platter of beach surf, outside but near-breakwall and inside breakwall paddling.    Should not be too challenging.

The Crib Crawl scheduled for 8AM on September 8th is an intermediate challenge in that there are no stopping points on the 7 mile course and we will be in open water....sea kayaking.  I will be notifying the Coast Guard of our event so they can keep an eye on us.    Need more paddlers.

These paddles were put together to get the paddles in the water again, so to speak.  Summer is winding down and we can't get enough time on the water.

Now is a good time to look out into the future and come up with ideas for outings.    Please write back to me with your ideas.   Am looking at feasibility of having a regular paddlling schedule out of Whiskey Island.  Thinking that Wednesday at 6PM and Sunday at 8AM would work.   I do believe in safety in numbers and having regular paddles would foster safety.    Sunday should be quieter water as boaters are not plentiful yet.    Keep in mind, that we are sea kayakers and our craft and gear is designed to handle motor boat wakes.   Taken the right way they are a good ride.

Have a fun and safe Labor day weekend all!

Gerry Henwood
