Topic:  Spirituality, faith, and religion: What is the difference?

There are number of concepts for spirituality, faith, and religion. What are the common concepts accepted in society?  How do you personally define and differentiate these concepts in your own mind?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

NEW LOCATION: We are meeting at Neshoba UU.  This is on a trial basis.

$5 MEAL: On Wednesdays, Neshoba serves a meal for $5 to its members and invited us to join them.  I will find out the details (menu, etc) and let you know.  If you want the meal, you have to RVSP.  Please, email [masked] with "Neshoba Meal" in the subject.

ROOM CHARGE: We are renting the room so we are asking participants to donate $2 to cover the cost except for first time attendees.  The $2 is less expensive than purchasing a meal at a restaurant so we hope that it will help with attendance.

    Anyone has a preference for communion? I think if Jesus's blood was a wine, it would have to be Pinot!! That's what I'll bring!! See you guys there!!

      One of the attorney's in our group recommended that we not bring alcoholic beverages to MFA events because of liability reasons. MFA is a corporation--albeit a poverty stricken one--so people wouldn't get much money but a lawsuit would likely shut us down. Other groups, such as Memphis Atheists, are not legal entities and don't have to worry about this issue.

      We can always get together as friends, though, for some beers and wine ... similar to employees hitting Happy Hour after work.

    This meal is just a buffet style soap and salad. Remember that we are just trialing Neshoba UU. However, the location looks promising and the fact that some of the Neshoba UU members may join us is exciting! One of the church staff said that about a third of the UU members are atheists/agnostics. And UU's are very big on tolerance/acceptance as one of their core values. Ockham's Cafe has more skeptics but we should fit in relatively well. I am looking forward to seeing everyone tonight!

      Soap & salad: Don't knock it until you try it! ;)

    I read this article months ago, and didn't agree with it, but this topic reminded me of the article. There are some ridiculous claims and assumptions in this article, but he does raise some questions (if you can get that far) that may come up tomorrow:

      Yeah, that article is from the CNN.com belief blog, they're pretty flexible on who can post there. Anyways, the reason I posted it is, despite the rhetoric, he does ask a question that I think some may bring up - can one really consider themselves 'spiritual' but still hold a naturalist view of the universe?

      That's a good question.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
