SOCIALISM: What can capitalistic societies, such as the United States learn from socialistic societies and vice versa? When does government or community control of production work? When is private property or individual ownership ever a good thing for society as a whole?

Socialism: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods; a system of society or group living in which there is no private property (Merriam-Webster online dictionary).
