I am working on a screen play for a feature or short entitled 'Last orders'. It is based on a short play I wrote which was selected for development by the National Theatre as part of a scheme for new writers. After watching the play brought to life on stage I felt that it may work more effectively on the screen. The story is about a young man enjoying university social life who fails his exams, spends all his student loan and has to return home to live with his grandmother and work in a pub. While back at home with no degree or job prospects, his cantankerous grandma and piss - taking mates he becomes re - acquainted with his first girlfriend. With all else being bleak he develops feelings for her again and decides to try and win her back. However she accepts a place at a top university and leaves, but not before encouraging him to re-train and get himself out of his rut. I am interested in writing low concept pieces about the realities of modern life in a recession and unemployment.
My name is Rebecca Short and I am a teacher, actor and writer with professional experience. I have recently completed a screenwriting course at city lit and have acted professionally alongside Josie Lawrence in an award winning short film.
