Three Rivers Heritage Trail (First Ride)

This is part of a trail ride series sponsored by the Ohio River Trail Council intended to bring awareness to the wonderful trails in our 4-state region. (Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia) All cyclist are welcome for this rails-to-trails moderate-paced ride!

For this ride... We bike Pittsburgh's growing trail system. Starting at the Bicycle Heaven Museum we will ride most of the trails within the city of Pittsburgh - along both the Allegheny & Monongahela Rivers. The Ride will include the Ft. Pitt bridge, the North Shore, Washington's Landing, trail ending near Millvale, Convention Center & its new water feature, Point State Park, South Side, and more.

Route: We will start on the North Shore Trail at the N Franklin trailhead, (near Bicycle Heaven) and travel up the North Side passing Rivers Casino, PNC Park and Heinz Field. The ride crosses the Allegheny on the seventh street bridge and then goes to the David Lawrence Convention Center from there we will go down to the point and take a few pictures at the fountain. The next area is the Mon Warf and then a short (about 2 ½ blocks) ride along the highway to the Eliza Furnace Trail (Jail Trail).  Cross the Hot Metal Bridge to the South Side and go up the Monongahela to the Eagles nest so bring your camera and binoculars. We return by following the South Side Trail down the river to Station Square and crossing the Fort Pitt Bridge to the point for a couple more pictures and then crossing over to the stadiums and down the North Shore Trail to the N Franklin Trailhead. The ride is about 20 - 25 miles.

Eleven riders participated today. Even though it rained today, everyone was prepared for the weather with rain gear and had a great time!
