I've communicated with Dave and everything is still arranged for this Saturday morning. Try hard to be on time so we can provide any rules to everyone about where to go and what to shoot during our visit. I will put some sort of sign at the entrance so you drive down the right driveway. This is a working ranch, be sure to wear boots that can get a bit dirty and have a clean pair for your car and for the breakfast if you are participating. Weather now calls for a 20% chance of rain so dress and protect you gear accordingly. I have 25 RSVPs for breakfast, which will be just down route 132 in New Richmond. After reviewing several possibilities our best bet is the Frisch's at 1052 Old US 52 near an IGA and McDonalds. They have a breakfast buffet that will help facilitate our number.
Join us for a frosty March morning to shoot buffalo at the Vista Grand Ranch run by Cindy Cassell and David Uible, in New Richmond, Ohio. The 171 acre ranch used to be a dairy farm, however, they settled on raising buffalo which require less supervision than dairy cattle. RSVPs will open 60 days in advance of the event.
Why so early on a cold morning? Our goal will be to capture the buffalo with steamy breaths and possibly ice on their shaggy coats. We will be allowed to photograph the large barn, chickens, dogs, and peacocks. To learn more about Grand Vista Ranch see this web-site: http://www.vistagrandranch.com/
In exchange for this opportunity I have offered David to give him copies of our photos. Like we did for the Ohio Valley Carriage Club I will create two photo albums - photos you are happy to let Vista Grand Ranch have and one for those you prefer not to give.
Due to the expected interest this meetup is limited to OVCC member photographers only with signups starting 60 days before the event.
If weather dictates (snow for example) the meetup date will be adjusted.
Directions: see the Meetup Map link above. Located at 2652 Ohio Route 132 in New Richmond, Ohio 45157. The Ranch entrance is the long driveway just above the "A" below to the area in the lower right, and is located between Goebell Hill and Riebel Ridge roads. Or: coming in from US52 the driveway is 2.2 miles north of SR 132, if from SR 125 it is 5 miles south.
Entrance to Vista Grand Ranch
Parking: Once you get to the ranch follow the driveway until you get the circle near the large barn and park in a field at the top of the driveway to keep the cars out of our photographs.
Breakfast: there are two possibilities for a 10 am post-shoot breakfast which I will post later once the RSVPs start coming in with "yes" for breakfast and I get a headcount.
FYI: If you are interested, you can buy their buffalo meat at 8 locations in the Greater Cincinnati, as identified at their web-site.
