Paul Miles Presents ...Photographing Birds Best Practices

Paul Miles is an experienced OVCC photographer who specializes in photographing birds around his home.  Paul will share some of his bird photographs and explain the special techniques he has developed to get sharp and "winning" bird shots.

Meet at the Fernald Community Room on March 30.  Paul cover his setup techniques, the camera gear he uses, how he keeps from spooking the birds so they don't take flight, the technique he uses to capture sharp images, post-processing, and more.  He will also share a number of images with us and the settings he used to capture them.

Afterwards Paul will save his presentation in the Files area on the OVCC web-site so you too can improve the "birder" in you.

Bring your own snacks and drinks.  See you there before 1 pm so we can start at 1 pm sharp!

Thanks, Paul! Very good presentation. I learned some new tips for photographing birds and other wildlife. It was nice to see the actual equipment and how it is used, rather than seeing it in an ad. The photographs were inspiring.

A good presentation with techniques I had not thought of. It is always good to be able to seen someone else's sytle of shooting and learn how they do it. Paul showed various gear and techniques...thanks Paul!

Even though I indicated I could not attend a few days in advance, apparently my name was not taken off the list. I would have loved to attend but had a conflict

    • Connie

Rich, I think you have to change your RSVP yourself to get your name off the list. Of course, you may have indeed done that and Meetup messed it up.

I am sorry. I got lost & cannot find Willey road or fernald preserve. I HV never been here before & tried with the directions I had plus my GPS but no luck. Not sure if there is some unknown trick to finding the place. Also no phone # to call either. Hope another one gets posted soon in perhaps an easier place to find.

Amy, so sorry you didn't know where to find it. If you had clicked on the Fernald name above it pops up a Google map showing the location (as do all of the meetups).

    Good presentation, Paul!

AND FYI, everyone: I found a lens cap on the short trail that leads off from the back parking lot. Because I wasn't absolutely sure it was one of "ours," I left it at the desk in the visitor center. It was a Nikon cap, and it looked like it should go on a fixed-lens camera.

this is not a hands on per se, it is a presentation by an experienced bird photographer in the club on his techniques. It will be indoors in the Fernald community room.

I'm so interested in coming to see your bird photos and the tips on how to get good images. I am bringing a guest who is not a photographer but is a passionate bird watcher. Will you have lots of your images to share or will it be 75% tech info so I can let her know. I saw a Vaired Thrush on my balcony today. What a thrill !
