Allan, are these cranes difficult to approach (ie, what minimum focal length would be a minimum to give it a shot?)

Fred, difficult to get close to Sandhill Cranes at Brookville. There were fewer than 100 of them on the day I was there. Later, there should be more. These were taken with a 500mm lens and cropped, probably at least 200 yards away. Ewing Bottoms should offer a much better chance to get closer in Jan or Feb if the corn fields retain some water for them. You can check activity/crane return to Ewing Bottoms on Cincinnati Bird Club sightings log, and I'll post on Message Board here when I here numbers that would make a trip worthwhile. In good numbers at Ewing Bottoms, a 200-300mm lens should work ok shooting from the car as a blind.

Thank you so much Allan, considering a possible photo shoot.
