We need to retreat from the rat race to re-appreciate writing in the company of supportive writers.

Join Us for the Spring Version of Our Annual Island Retreat!

The very first Annual Springtime Writers Retreat on Middle Bass Island is Saturday, May 14th and Sunday, May 15th, 2011. The $125 retreat fee includes round-trip passenger tickets for the ferry boat, transport to/from the island docks, overnight accommodations in a private cottage room, plus all meals and beverages, planned group writing activities and your own "quiet time" during this unique weekend getaway.

French explorers long ago named Middle Bass Island the "Isle de Fleurs" because of its wildflowers. If April showers really bring May flowers, then we should be in for an extra treat. The historic Lonz Winery, although temporarily closed, remains one of the popular "Kodak moments" along with its glacial grooves, the eagle's nest and Lake Erie sunsets. Middle Bass is often confused with its busier sister island South Bass, b.k.a. Put-in-Bay to tourists and weekend party crowds. Middle Bass is known as the quieter island and is ideal for our next writing retreat. Bring your bicycle, camera, binoculars and walking shoes.

Reservations are limited, so if this retreat fills up there will be a first-come, first-served waiting list in place.

Sounds wonderful! Do any of you know if pets are allowed?

Hi JJ, per "house rules," pets are not invited. See my greeting for you.

Hi Steve, thanks for the welcome! Guess I'll have to work on finding a pet sitter. The islands in May couldn't be more perfect, & I certainly need to get back in touch with my creative side!

With less than 24 hours to go, we have a spot that is now open for another writer to join us in retreat on the island this weekend.

Sigh, I am going to miss all of you. I ended my current job yesterday and start a new job Monday and ended up getting sick in the process. So, I am heading to the doc at 11:15 today and then to bed to rest for the weekend. Maybe October? :) Enjoy. My spirit will be with you. It is not contagious!

Received the email about the last minute opportunity Saturday morning. Another chilly and rainy weekend! It is a good thing the fellowship and hospitality are warm. I am thinking about you and wish I could be there.

Thanks to all our retreaters. You made it a great time for me as your host. As a fellow writer, I learned how talented each one of you is, listening to you read your writing.

I really enjoyed spending a weekend in the company of fellow writers. Our host went all out to ensure that our accommodations were clean and comfortable. He made them as disability-friendly as any non-retro-fitted, pre-ADA construction can be. The food and drink were delicious, the chocolate was abundant, the conversations were stimulating. There was a decent mix of private time and group time for the limited amount of time available to us. Most of what I saw as downsides to the weekend were things largely outside of our control--being somewhat at the mercy of the weather, the wind and the ferry schedules. While the rain and chill may have put a damper on the outside activities, I do think it contributed to more group time., which was a plus. I would have liked to spend more time at the retreat dedicated to actively writing and sharing our writing. Saturday evening could have a "read-around" added, with each writer who participates sharing a short piece of her/his work.

Incredible. Late nights fueled by talk and some alcohol....at least me. Spirited discussions and beleive it or not, we were all friends the next day, Steve is the uber host.
