August Meetup

  • August 27, 2014 · 7:00 PM

I wanted to update this months meeting.  Dave Stokes (Community Manager from Oracle) will give a talk on optimizing queries using EXPLAIN.

I'll also give a brief talk on how to collect queries from the system to identify sub-optimal execution plans.

This should prove to be a good followup to the indexing theory discussed by Peter in the last meeting.

We'll meet at The 404 this week (across the street from the Paramount) and again will be providing food and drinks.  Hope to see you there!

Had a good time! Good/knowledgeable folks, and good food! Also learned a few things!

Thanks again to Dave for making the trip up and giving a great talk! It was great to see everyone and I'll start getting things put together for the September meeting!

Based on some feedback from those in attendance last night, it seems like some introductory topics would be beneficial as well.

I'd love more intro topics, but I understand it can be hard to strike a good balance. Also, lightning talks (5-10 min talks) are such a wonderful event for user group meetups. It inspires new speakers and generates a lot of excitement in the community. :-)

+1 on moving to Prototek (or the 404, we like them too :-P). Let me know if you want to drop in at Prototek sometime and we can meet you there! Tuesday nights are open lab nights btw, you can swing by any Tuesday.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
