Learn to Program! (with Python)

Wanna learn to code? Join us at the OlyMEGA Makerspace on Thursday, August 15 for our inaugural programming class!

This first class will familiarize students with the basic concepts and terminology of programming, and guide them through the process of creating and running their first program.

Concepts we'll introduce include:
- The anatomy and lifecycle of a computer program
- Variables, Functions, and Types
- Boolean (true/false) logic, Loops, and Conditional Statements
- Writing Clean Code: Formatting, indentation, and good naming practices
- Working with (and learning from) other people's code

Future classes will expand on this and cover things like Object Oriented Programming (OOP), advanced logic, and more. Your suggestions and requests during these initial classes will help us decide what to present next!

See you there!

I really liked the presentation. I thought it went in good logical order and made a lot of sense. I liked the interactive component and I felt the examples were good. The only suggestion I wanted to make was to end on a group exercise. Getting everyone together at the end for any problem, any whatsoever, would make the folks feel really good.

OK, we really, REALLY need to post detailed directions on every Meetup! The address is useless. Google Maps doesn't know what to do with 1/2, so it just takes you to the intersection half a block away. The sandwichboard sign is behind cars, no one knows to look for it, and when it starts getting dark it disappears. And no one new knows to look for it, anyway.

We're not even telling people that we're down the alley.

I wonder how many other potentials we've never seen. Most people won't say a word.

Where... where is this building? What is it next to? Google directed me to an empty warehouse...

In the alley between The Royal Lounge on Capital Way and Copper Moon Massage Therapy on Columbia St. NW. Look for the open door.

I know a little but I could always afford to learn more (especially since I haven't made anything truly useful yet).
