Disassemble Printers, Scanners and Copiers for Parts and Treasures

We will be bringing in a number of printers, scanners and copiers that are being discarded by a local computer repair and recycling organization to be disassembled by anyone interested in getting some parts to use for future projects, or just learning what's inside them.

This event is open to adults and kids 16 and older supervised by a parent or guardian. Members get in free, non-members $5 per person.

Several members will be there to explain what we find as we take things apart. Potential parts might include: gears, stainless steel rails, bearings, springs, stepper motors, dc motors, ac motors, fans, first surface mirror, optics, circuit boards, switches, other electrical components, power cords and more.

Safety issues will be explained and discussed.

Tools, safety glasses, etc. will be available for taking things apart.

This event is open to adults and kids 16 and older supervised by a parent or guardian.

Come learn and gain experience taking stuff apart and identifying useful items that are discarded everyday!

Thanks to all who showed up for this, especially those who stayed to help clean up. Hope all of you learned something and found some treasure.

The motors I saw were DC motors, controllable with PWM via a power transistor and an Arduino.

Look for the upcoming class/workshop series on using stepper motors with Arduino.

Dan may be bringing a solder pot, and if we don't have a hot air rework station, I may bring mine. Both to aid in scavenging parts.
