Hooray! I can finally make it this year. Field Day is an ARRL and IARU sanctioned event, so everyone in North and South America has it on the same weekend. It is Sat-Sun Jun 28 and 29.
Field Day is a day for Amateur Radio operators, aka Hams, to gather in various places and get on the air. People bring out their mobile equipment and connect with other Hams all over. New Hams are often invited to try out other people's equipment and practice getting on the air. There are also normally testing sessions available if wish to get your license, or upgrade.
Or you don't have to wait to take the test. OARS holds exams just before the start of each monthly meeting.
All countries within IARU Region 2 are taking part, which includes countries in North and South America. IARU is the International Amateur Radio Union.
Update: W7DK, the Tacoma/Pierce County ham radio club is holding Field Day at their clubhouse at 1249 South Washington Street, Tacoma, Washington 98405.
Update: OARS, the Olympia Amateur Radio Society, is holding Field Day in the Red Cross building,[masked]th Court SW, Olympia, WA.
The W7JQ RF Wireless Amateur Radio Club of Burley looks to be holding something large for Field Day in Gig Harbor. In spite of the date in the link, that is about Field Day June 2014.
For now, I've put my home in as a place to meet and carpool. By all means, RSVP if you think you are going, even if you are not carpooling. But please mention if you do wish to carpool.
I'm thinking we can visit several of these, if we wish.
