Let the Plastic Spitting begin! (Setting up a 3D Printer for the Space)

  • October 11, 2012 · 8:00 PM

Tonight we're setting up OlyMEGA's first full-time 3D Printer!

Generously on loan from Evergreen State College and Evergreen instructor Arlen Speights, who built the printer (a Prusa Mendel) earlier this Summer, in support of a 3D printing class he taught.

While the printer isn't ours "for keeps", this is a long-term loan of the equipment, and it will remain in the space for use by OlyMEGA members, as well as being available to any current Evergreen students who wish to use it.

NOTE: This meetup overlaps with "LEDs Part 2", but you can do both! We will be doing boring stuff like setup and calibration for the first hour - and by the time class lets out, it should (hopefully) be all set up and ready to print!

ALSO!:

If the 3D printing thing tickles your fancy, don't forget to RSVP for our trip to StudentRND next weekend, where we will be learning how to use the popular tool SketchUp to design and convert models for 3D printing!

Very interesting. Kat brought her 3D printer, too, with the custom PCB she made.
