    I was able to contact the college, and asked if they had suggestions for vantage points. Here's their response:

    Apparently the photographers that we’ve used for this event have always scouted out the best areas from which to shoot upon arrival but we’ve not really noticed where those spots were. They sometimes take shots from the tower but otherwise, they just rove around the festival. The tower definitely does afford a perfect vantage point for viewing the races and that’s open to the public to use. The rocky area on the shoreline are also a great place to take photos. So, I’d recommend that your photographers come before the start of the festival (9:00 official welcome) or even scout it out over the next few weekends to see where a good vantage point would be. The pier will be off limits because only the paddlers and race officials will have access to that area. Otherwise, it’s free range!
