JUICE, JACK, VINEGAR and BEYOND

We're covering home-built cider presses, stove top juicers, making vinegar, apple jack, and other things made with apple juice...

Be a player.... go online and use your imagination to make a press out of things you have around the house.  We'll have a contest to see who can get the most juice out of a measured volume of apples.

Really disappointed that our vinegar/brewing expert didn't make it... I WILL fix my cider press, bet on it!

*Scratching his head thinking* Gotta think of this press as a hydraulic ram. In this case, I'm thinking a narrow tube some 5" or so across and long would be far more efficient than 24" across for the same amount of energy.

Um, if you're talking about the basket wherein one deposits the apples, I would think the best approach would be a happy medium between maximum force applied (narrow tube) and reasonable batch size (larger tube). That way you don't spend all your time swapping apple mash in and out of the press, either.

For the dish soap do we use the same fels-naptha, or regular Ivory bar soap?

Could someone please either post the recipes for the dish & laundry soaps on here or send them to me through an email? Thanks :)

Making a press is simply a fun way to learn.... we'll have a contest to see who can sqeeze the most juice out of a measured batch of apples (just like the IRS and us)

Larry, is this is for the BOB Show and Tell and a demonstration for long-term grain storage? That's what the group wanted and we decided on at the last meeting.
