Joe Baque with Neap Tide @ the Royal Lounge

Neap tides occur when the sun, moon, and earth form a right angle and the gravitational pull of the sun counteracts the pull of the moon, the tide-generating forces of the sun and moon oppose each other and produce the smallest rise and fall in tidal level.

It seems right, that at the vertex of the neap tide effect, one will find Baque meets Bossa!

Olympia's one and only, legendary jazz pianist, Joe Bague along with jazz flutist and Brazilian music lover John Croarkin, have put together a night  of Bossa Nova Classics. Their newly formed group, Neap Tide, features Jeff Busch on Drums and Percussion, James Schneider on electric Bass, Neil Slifka on 7 stringed guitar, Nicole Williams on Cello. PNW Jazz Legend, Chuck Stentz, will make a rare appearance, adding his beautiful Tenor sax sound to a few of Jobim's classic Bossa's.

Neap tide has prepared a special evening of Beautiful Bossa's penned by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

So sit back, sip a cocktail, escape the push and pull with Joe Baque and Neap Tide. Coordinates are opposite the hypotenuse.....or 311 Capital Way, Olytown planet Earth.

The Jazz was great, but it was overamplified and at times the piano and flute drowned out the other instruments.

I believe that room is the hardest room to balance.

Yes, The Royal is a very tricky room to get good sound "throughout"! I invite any of you listeners to try another seat in the room... since it varies so much. And I understand that if you are taking photos you may want to be up close, but we try to adjust volumes that will be high enough for those in the back too. And if you think it's rough out front, I can tell you that getting good sound on stage is another whole can of worms!! Good news is, we are honing in and gaining on good sound each week! Thanks for listening!

Yes, indeed.... a beautiful night of bossa music floating on the waves of the Neap Tide. John, feedback on sound is welcomed. The sound guy generally leaves before the gig starts, than I am on duty, so come tell me if you think something is out of balance. I am only an egg. Susan is right, it is a hard room to work, sound wise. But getting feedback the day after is the most difficult thing to fix. 8^)

I'm sorry, did you say Chuck Stentz? Well, if you had any doubts at all about seeing this show having Chuck Stentz play saxophone should make up your mind. Haven't heard Chuck? I make a personal promise that you will be so happy you will tip double in the good old tip jar. See you there!

If by some miracle you haven't listened to Joe Baque play piano you MUST come by the Royal for a night of outstanding music that Joe and John Croarkin have put together. Have other plans? Cancel them!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
