Apple Jack Festival 2014

The Apple Jack Festival in 2014 is the weekend of September[masked], 2014 (Fri-Sun)

A small group of us rode down Friday evening.  Because of the Husker- Miami game on Saturday I have canceled the ride for the rest of the weekend.  If you chose to ride be safe!

Event is most enjoyable if you can stay at the lodge. As for the ride I posted it to early to to keep interest up. We seem to have the best attendance with ride postings within a month of an event.

I enjoyed meeting Richard and his wife (I’m sorry I forgot your name) and Z-Man on the trip down to Nebraska City. It was a good excuse to take a nice ride. I have decided to cancel my trip down to Nebraska City on Saturday morning. I might still take a motorcycle ride Saturday but I’ll have to see what mood I’m in the morning. I think the participation for this event was low because I posted it over 6 months ago and I’m sure a lot has changed in peoples schedules between December 2013 and today’s ride. I hope to get at least one more ride in with the group before winter sets in.

If you're available Sunday, some of us are going to The Freedom Rock. The ride is on the site.

Thanks for the invite I have to work Sunday but that is a fun ride!

I have to admit also that I kinda want to watch the Miami-Nebraska game live. I should not have scheduled this ride on such a big game weekend anyways.

We are pulling out in 10 min:-)

Heading out in 1/2 hour see you all there.

When we get there Friday night I suspect we will be hanging out near the Apple Jack Kick Off Concert. The address is listed below. You can try calling me on my cell phone after 7:30 pm[masked] if you wanted to see where we (or I) are hanging out. This is my first time here so I’m no expert on what to do or where to do it. I’ll just be winging it. I will check my Meetup message board for the last time about 4:30 pm then I’ll get ready to head over to the Kwik shop in Bellevue.
AppleJack Festival Kickoff Concert - Featuring Back Forty
    Time: 9pm - 1am
Location: AppleJack Village (Sunken Parking Lot between 7th and 8th Street)

For the Apple Jack Festival 2014 ride I see 9 riders listed as going. Could the ones that will be riding up with me Friday at 6pm and Saturday at the new start time of 9 am send me a message on Meetup letting me know your plans? For example: JohnQ Friday at 6pm yes. Saturday at 9 am yes. JoeR Friday at 6pm yes. Saturday at 9am no. That way we will not be waiting for someone who is not riding up with us but that is still attending the event.

    September 19

  • mjbahr007

Who is riding up on Saturday with me and would you be open to starting from the Kwik shop at 2103 Capehart road in Bellevue at 9 am instead of noon? The rain appears to have cleared out then and we would get more time at the event. Let me know.

    September 19

  • mjbahr007

Let’s meet again at the Kwik shop Saturday, wheels up at noon. If you need to top off, get snacks, use the bathroom, or chat, feel free to join me at 11:30 am. Because of recent family commitments I will be heading back to Omaha no later than 3pm Saturday afternoon. Feel free to stay longer if you desire or head back whenever you need to on both days. These plans are subject to change because of weather. Check our Meetup site for updates before you begin your ride each day. There are apps for Meetup for smart phones. My phone number is[masked] if you are running a little late either day and want us to wait 5 min or so.

I checked the weather at 3pm Thursday and we are a go for Friday night. I will meet you at the Kwik Shop, 2103 Capehart Road, Bellevue, NE. Wheels up at 6pm. If you need to top off, get snacks, use the bathroom, or chat, feel free to join me at 5:30pm or earlier at the Kwik shop. I'll be heading back to Omaha Friday night no later than Midnight to avoid the anticipated morning thunder showers. I plan on bringing my rain gear in case the rain shows up sooner than planned. Thunderstorms might begin around 2am Saturday morning hopefully ending around 10am.

I called down to Nebraska City and they said that most of the venues and activities would be shut down by the time we get there on Friday night. I guess most of them are done between 5-7 pm. However I noticed that the Apple Jam Carnival and the Apple Jack Festival Kickoff Concert would still be going on by the time we got there. I figure a nice ride on a Friday evening would be enough to hold my interest. Since I don’t know what the food offerings will be at this time of night I plan on eating before we meet at 6pm and then snacking and such at the event until we decide to head back. Needless to say anyone is welcome to leave earlier Friday and head back when they want to Friday night. I’ll update the weather Thursday night.

  • mjbahr007

My gut feeling is that I will do the ride down and back on Friday but pass on the down and back on Saturday because of the t-storms but the weather around here changes quickly so i'll know for sure Thursday night what the next 18 hours might bring.

    September 17

  • mjbahr007

Weather.com says Friday's temps are 86 high 72 low 10% chance of rain wind from South at 18 mph. Saturday's forecast temps 83 high 61 low with a 50% chance of rain scattered T-Storms with potential for severe t-storms winds from the WSW at 10 mph.

    September 17

  • mjbahr007

Looking at the weather it looks like Friday evening will work just fine. Saturday needs some further monitoring due to forecast severe T-storms. I will know more about both days by Thursday evening.

Will be riding down on Friday for the evening, heading back that evening. Hope to meet some of the riders. See ya at the Kwik Shop.

If you don't mind a newbie rider tagging along, I would like to join you for the trip down and back on Friday, then Sat round robin as well

Earlier this year some of our bike less members asked if they could ride as a passenger (pillion) on one of our rides. I am open to taking one member for Friday and/or Saturday for this event. It will be first asked first served. If you need a helmet let me know.

As of now, if I don't hear different, I will meet the people going down to the festival after work on Friday at the Kwik Shop, 2103 Capehart Road in Bellevue, wheels up at 6pm. We can play it by ear as to the return time etc. I plan on dressing warm if the current weather is any indication of what to expect. I have never been to the festival before but I am looking forward to trying out the baked goods!

  • mjbahr007

I'll be taping the Husker game if we win it I'll watch it if we lost I'll just delete it and be happy I had a nice riding day. If the weather is going to suck for this weekend I might make alternate plans but i'll keep people informed.

    September 15

  • mjbahr007

It appears that HWY 75 is open according to a newspaper article I read if anyone knows different let me know.

    September 15

  • mjbahr007

Ok, I'll be able to ride up and back both Friday and Saturday. Lets start talking about meeting locations and times for both days.

  • mjbahr007

I should have a reply back from my employer by next week. I think I can make Friday, maybe Saturday, but not Sunday for sure.

Everyone, I have not been able to nail down my schedule yet for this event because my work schedule will not be known until September 1 at the earliest. There are a lot of changes going on at my work so I might or might not be given permission to attend this event. I will reveal my schedule/plans as soon as I can. Obviously don’t wait for me to make your plans and post them. I suspect that I will only be able to attend one day, basically riding up in the morning and riding back in the evening. I look forward to the day I can retire and not have to worry about a schedule to tie me down!

Not sure if you are interested and or able to go down Friday night but come back Friday night late, then going back down on Sat, leaving again Sat night. WHENNNNN u get your schedule, we could tentatively set some plan

Anyone know whether or not Hwy 75 will be open between Nebraska City and 34 West by the time of the Apple Jack Festival?

As of today, August 10th, the road is paved to just past the Union orchard. This paving will still need to be covered with asphalt, but it looks like they might just get it done in time. I'm not saying it will be done, I don't know all the details since I no longer am working on the bridges. This is just what I saw riding down there today.

Sounds promising. Thanks for the update, Johnny!

  • Z M.

I am opened to riding down there with someone on Friday, come back Friday night, then go back on Saturday but leave again on Sat night. Unfortunately my work week starts on Sunday. I want to gain riding experience since I just started riding in 2013.

  • mjbahr007

Because of conflicting family activities I have not made any hotel reservations for this event yet. If the rooms are taken for this weekend I might just ride up for a day activity with other members of our group. Unfortunately I will not know for sure until mid-August.

Maybe we can have a tailgate for the Saturday night football game.

    January 7, 2014

  • mjbahr007

Charles I think that is a great Idea. Anyone that is not planning on spending the whole weekend (going up Friday night and back Sunday morning) post your intentions here in the comments section and we can link up as a group on Saturday when you arrive!

What about making a second meet-up for this same weekend that starts in Nebraska City--one which folks can attend but not have to stay in NE City overnight? We could just join-up at a designated time Saturday for the ride and either go home afterwards or get a room that night.

I'm thinking that if we make it a separate event, it would be easier to advertise the starting location, time and ride details.

    Whatcha think, group?

I'm making this suggestion because there are some of us who live close enough to Nebraska City that it wouldn't be cost-beneficial to spend the night when we're less than an hour from home.

It's just a suggestion. Just like butt holes, everyone has one - some just stink worse than others! ;-)

Just F.Y.I., if your a Husker football fan, the Miami Hurricanes come to Lincoln that Saturday...I'll probably be in for Sunday. I believe the car show is then too.

I'm thinking of staying in a cheaper hotel like the Best Western for $80.00 a night rather than the Lied Lodge with costs about $200 a night.

For the new folks to the area Nebraska City is only 1 HR away from Omaha so it is not necessary to stay in a hotel if you don't want to. I was just thinking it would be nice to have a base of operations to do some riding in the area.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
