SOUL ASYLUM

I've always been a big fan of the Minneapolis music scene (Replacements, Husker Du, The Jayhawks, (early) Son Volt , Golden Smog, Soul Asylum, and to a degree Semisonic.  And of course Bob Dylan hails from Duluth) and Dave Pirner's voice sounds as good as ever, IMO.  Although I probably liked their harder stuff a bit more than their "Grave Dancer's Union" album, I'm still a sucker for power pop. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show.

"Originally formed in 1983 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Soul Asylum has consistently issued heartfelt and passionate rock n’ roll, first starting out on indie Twin/Tone, before scoring two major hits on Columbia, 1992’s ‘Grave Dancers Union’ (including the hit single “Runaway Train”) and 1995’s ‘Let Your Dim Light Shine.’ And the group is one of the few rock acts that can say that they played a presidential inauguration, when they did so for Bill Clinton in 1993.

The delay is now over, Soul Asylum fans. Dave Pirner and the band are back, and have readied a very potent ‘Delayed Reaction.’ "

Poor Dave Pirner. His voice was sent through the vegomatic dicer, slicer, and julienne fry maker. But he gutted it out...and gave us an inspired performance. His voice just wasn't there tonight...but he truly gets a thumbs up for effort. I would suspect the man won't be able to sing for weeks.

I'm going to try to get there at 8:00 to get a table. My phone # is[masked] for anyone that I haven't met. Text me, because I probably won't be able to hear my phone.

Yeah, I was bummed to hear Dan Murphy essentially quit music. 30+ years in this band alone. I'm not a huge Soul Asylum guy (was a bigger fan of The Mats and Husker Du) but I always liked Dan Murphy's guitar sound. I also liked the fact that he played in Golden Smog.

Dave Pirner is the only original member left in the band. Still, he puts on a good show.

    Hi Melissa,

It is general admission. It's one of the reasons I like the place so much... we can all hang out together without having to worry about seats! :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
